The top middle port is the exhaust port. It needs nothing connected there.
The valve should have 3 hoses connected. A supply from the passengers side frame rail, and 2 hoses between the valve going to the air cylinder on the front of the T-case.

sc, if your refering to your return line, it should be attached with a hose clamp.
A look at the -24P shows it clearly with a hoseclamp.

I have the problem often. Probably 75% of the time. Drives me nuts. Might even add to my miserable attitude on the forums.
Almost always, after it does not edit(save), I can do it again and it works.
I suggest you go to a local alt/starter repair shop, and ask then what they have available.
Save your old D/S alt, as it is the only replacement you can use on the other side.
You can use whatever you want on the drivers side.

Since it has a rear flat tire, I suggest you keep it under 30 mph for the return trip(after inflating it), until you replace it(and any other damaged tires).

The TM shows the shaft seal backward. This is the seal between the air chamber and the fluid side. If it is in backward, you may be getting air pressurized air into the brake fluid from that.
There should be a few threads about this TM error.
