I see a worm gear hose clamp on the right end. It looks like it is holding a "boot" on?
Is it a spare starter motor? Some how jerry rigged under there?

The bind can be minimized by keeping the boom as high as possible. The idea is to have a long cable, so it can swing easier. Far from perfect, it but helps.

You may need to replace your door striker bushings. Look at the striker bolts, are you missing the plastic sleeve?
