Bumper fabrication, and is cucv same as 1988 k5 blazer?

The pic is a design I came up with using C-channel, angle, and plate. The winchbox would have the c-channel in the front and 3x3x3/8 angle on 3 sides. The bottom of the winchbox would be 1/4" plate with 3 sides overlapping the 3" angle. I'd add a 1" hole somewhere(dead center?) in the winchbox...

Bumper fabrication, and is cucv same as 1988 k5 blazer?

I've been contemplating fabricating heavy bumpers for CUCVs. I don't have a CUCV but I have access to a bumper off of a 1988 k5 blazer and intermittent access to that truck for measurements. If I make the bumpers to fit this k5 will they also fit the CUCV? My research says yes, but I want to be...

    CUCV custom bumper

How thick is the plate used for the main portion of the bumper? 1/4" seem about right? Schedule 40 pipe for the center of the brushguard? I contemplate placing m939 shackle mounts and shackles positioned similar to where they are on the 5ton...

    how far?

I bought a "does not start and does not run" truck 1000 miles away and had it towed to storage until I could get there to get it. Worked on it for a day and then drove it 1000miles home. The most important tool ? A chase vehicle. Doesn't matter what. Anything can take you to go buy tools and...

    M923 with No alternator output

I've got a truck to retrieve with a bad alternator. I'm contemplating doing this instead of installing a military alternator. Mine is the 8.3. Are the brackets the same? Or maybe I should just do this to my M925 and take the OEM alternator to switch out for recovery. Is it safe to assume the...

    M931a2. Brakes lock with abs

Thing is, if you lock the brakes the torque converter can't release fast enough to prevent you from killing the engine. At that point you lose the power steering and the steering wheel is (frequently tly) jerked from your hand, resulting in high likelihood of a rollover.

The bare wheel is about 165lbs. The whole wheel/tire assembly is somewhere around 600lbs. Balancing should not be necessary.

    Recovering an M923

Releasing the air brakes is as simple as caging them. Without air lines from the towing vehicle the towed vehicle then has no brakes. It *will* push the towing vehicle around. Optimally you want the towing vehicle to be much heavier than the towed vehicle, as this offsets the tendency to be...
