Because the front axle doesn't have lock out hubs(it has spline caps) the front wheels turn the drive shaft. The front wheels don't receive power from the transfer case till air shift lever is switched and an air plunger turns on the front drive shaft output.

DO NOT ADD ANY ADDITIVE until you test your coolant! Too much or too little is bad. Its called DCA diesel coolant additive. Do a search on google to see what needs to be done, I am not too familiar to say with any certainty.

I'm pretty sure there is 24v and 12v heaters. I know when I rebuilt mine it was asked 12 or 24v. Since yours is not stock, maybe you need to find out if its 12v cause I bet 24v would put a hurtin on it.
