Well,
the new pump works as advertised, I am so happy things are back operational now.
To help anyone out in the future, I can only HIGHLY recommend getting a power steering analyzer like this one off of Epay,
I paid $78 delivered, and it WILL tell you if it is the pump, the steering gear...
Absolutely, the correct weight is absolutely important.
Our Bajas are also way too hard once the temperature drops a certain point.
Luckily we still have a local shop that does, I might try that, but would rather have the 3pms mark on the tires, just to be safe.
you are probably right, I...

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good info here.
However, this thread is 2 1/2 years old, and the original poster hasn't been seen on the forum since March 2024, so 1 1/2 years ago. Don't get your hopes up too much that it worked out...

You are right about the cost, I do have 2 sets of the civilian versions, still brand-new in the bag. I was going to use them IF I get stuck, but I can't even get to the places to get stuck with the current tires as we usually only get a few inches at a time, then it melts off. I wouldn't want...

Thanks for all the input, I was leaning more toward the KO2 as well, and you’re right, not a very good chance to find them for 16.5 rims. I’ve also considered siping an extra set, but for the best effect I’ll go with the winter tires.
I am more so looking for information on mid range priced...
Hey all,
looking for the infinite wisdom of the old timers here . I will need to get a set of steel rims for winter tires so I can install a V-plow for my steep 1,900' country driveway.
I am looking to not spend too much for only winter driving and plowing, but do not need to get the...
Seems like I have it figured out. (knocking on wood) Would like to document the journey for others out there in the future who experience the same, may help someone out.
Like in the first few posts before, symptoms were steering loss at idle. Replaced pump, started to get moaning and whining...
I actually just got done with my replacement yesterday evening. It works great, but still bleeding it, over and over again.
I only have one hint, if you get the aftermarket pump, reuse the relief valve cartridge (Item 10, TM9-2320-280-24P, page 176-1) into the new pump. I've read a few times...

Just a random question: Is the TM procedure to disconnect the negative terminal before any electrical work sufficient to safeguard everything, or are there any chances things can go haywire?
If and when you are stuck in 1st or in "Low Lock" and it doesn't want to shift if could "feel" like slipping, but in fact you are only in limp mode and won't go any faster than 10mph. Make sure your High Lock, Low Lock range connecting linkage for the transfer case are aligned correctly and...
I would search for and download a copy of the 4L80E Transmission Troubleshooting Guide dated Jan 2008, the short the Terminal A and E under the left rear seat Data Link Connector to see if you have any transmission error codes. Then work through the troubleshooting guide from there.
Good luck...
Welcome to the forum.
I am a firm believer in the tire pressure outlined in the -10 owners' manual. I have a 10,300 lbs M1123 and am running 20 psi in all four, drop it down to 15--18 when off roading, all when no other load than the driver and passenger. Many folks here have a heart attack and...
So, at this point I have replaced my power steering pump, and the three EDIT: four low pressure hoses, as well as 2 of the 5 O-rings on the high pressure side.
I have bled the system over 3 days, mornings and evenings 40-50 turns for a total of 6 or 7 sets, hold for 5 seconds at each stop. Kept...

I've learned from others on this forum and had great success with just a tiny amount of Slime on the seal, just as a precaution. It fills in any unevenness or scratches if present.
And I second DREDnot's opinion in his post. As long as you don't have to mess with the run flats, pretty simple...

Very good point. Sorry to hear you lost a tire. I don't think it was solely because of the low pressure. It may have expedited, but according to the government ALL Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires older than 5 years are considered to be unserviceable... If you have others, I would consider...
Bled the system one more time this morning, did not help.
I have noticed there is just not enough boost/power to go around for brakes AND steering at idle. It gets better at higher rpm.
Now I am trying to figure out is it more likely some o-rings in the power steering pump or hoses, the pump...
UPDATE:
at least fixed the temperature indication. I inadvertently pulled the lead from the temp sending unit right next to the low pressure hose near the back of the pump.
Also, now noticing a low level chirp when at idle, never hear that before. Definitely pulley, belt related, but sounds...
Hey all,
We've been having some dreaded power steering woes, slowly building up to PS failure yesterday and some maintenance not helping thus far.
Hardware:
1999 M1123, single pump/reservoir, serpentine belt.
Dex III fluid level perfect at all times, fresh fluid (6 months).
Cooling fan came...
