Get a loan, buy a used Sportsmobile 4x4... ditch the military vehicle plan... too thirsty, too maintenance intensive.
Get an E350 chassis and mod from there... parts all over the world... get one in 4x4 or do a 4x4 conversion.
After your done they still bring good money properly...
Why would you have to get an oversize permit? The M1070 is tall, but its no wider than regs allow... its 8 foot 5 wide...
I agree with the fuel comment... WOW it would chew you up... and the speed of 45 MPH would make it take forever on the way...
So heard alot about wrong oil... mine just came in, what type of oil is needed?
Also same for the Mk48?
I'll tell you, compared to my like new Mk48/15a1, the HEMTT rides like a dream, and moves around MUCH easier!
Hey guys...
Well my HEMTT showed yesterday... M985... what an ordeal on EUC!
Besides some body dings and dents and a few paint needs, she looks pretty good...
I do have one question... it appears that there is a hose out of the top of both manifolds, that wraps down around the engine... and...
Wish I was closer, it would be fun to use the Mk48/15a1 on that... I pulled the truck that brought the Leopard 1, it and its trailer backwards with his brakes locked... all 100 foot of truck and trailer... I couldn't hear them yelling to stop as I drug him backwards.
Good luck man... be safe.
Hey all,
We use our Mk48 LVS/15a1 constantly... this week the crane was dropping a 3,000 lb Chieftain breech ring back into her...
But we continually have to run the engine, and it usually starts to overheat... STILL can't find that problem.
Anyway, we were thinking about putting an...
I stood outside of Prague, looking at T-72s to buy... they had a line of OT-64s almost new at the time. (This was 5 or more years ago). I asked what they wanted for one as it was new and I didn't know much about them (sorry, they had wheels)... the Czechs told me to run away... in very broken...
All Mk48s only have one steering axle, the rest of the steering is done by the hydraulic articulation based on the steering wheel position. Owning, using, and driving a Mk48 (NOT HEMTT) and transferring an FPU to another trailer by driving... I'd say he's nuts trying to pull one of these...
Justin,
I've watched with great interest your LMTV thread... I've recently picked up a beautiful LMTV with the 3116 in it. I was wondering if you knew if the C7 was a direct drop in replacement, and if so, will the drivetrain be able to sustain the extra HP?
I'm looking for better mileage...
Prayers and condolences to the families...
I second that thought o1951, I hope that the details are released and we can all learn from this tragedy, at least it may then serve to avoid other similar mishaps.
I know that one of the men was able to discuss what had happened to emergency...
Hey all,
Just got my LMTV today... unfortunately the trip from Florida destroyed the cargo cover... its done...
1) Any idea where to get a new LMTV cargo cover?
2) Will an M35A3 cargo cover work in a pinch?
Thanks!
If anyone has a spare center cap for the steering wheel with the Stewart...
Small correction to post above, Mk48 flatbed is a Mk14, not Mk13 or 13a1, to the best of my knowledge no Mk13...
Mk 48 LVS = FPU
/14 = flat bed container carrier unit - no crane
/15 = recovery unit - crane
/16 = tractor unit - no crane
/17 = cargo unit - crane
/18 = container retriever - no...
We use our 936 regularly for tank maintenance... we have never seen any limiting pins or anything that would limit rotation of the boom, on our wrecker.
You do need to make sure the boom struts are disconnected from the back of the bed of course, and stored up on the boom itself.
If equal...
Hey guys, thanks for the help...
Here is what we know:
1) Yes the radiator is full
2) Yes when it gets hot it has blown juice up and out... nice
3) Hydraulic fluid does not have water in it
4) We have not pulled the hydraulic fluid filter... doing that this weekend... got to pull the...
