    700R4 transmission in a HMMWV

Update on 700R4 in my M1028 - When I began assembling my new P400 6.5 drivetrain in 2018, I reached out to Chris Gardner at Bowtie Overdrives in Hesperia, California for his recommendation for a rebuilt 700R4. At the time, I had planned to keep the engine naturally aspirated, as the P400 is...

Helpful video to remove glove compartment lock

Here is a helpful video which clearly explains how to remove and reinstall the glove compartment lock. I've been removing/installing these things for over 40 years, but thought some of our junior members might find it helpful.

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

Here's where I relocated the blackout switches to make room for the outboard A/C vent. To accommodate the top vent, I moved the amp gauge down into the diagnostic port bracket. The custom 4-gang switch panel fit perfectly into the radio cut-out, but instead of attaching them to the plastic...

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

I'm coming down the home stretch on the interior. Got the new gauge cluster completed and installed. None of the gauges are hooked up yet, that will be done when the new P400 powertrain goes in later in the summer. The carpet set fit like a glove, even the piece for the rear cab wall. For...

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

Got the carpet installed over the KilMat. What a difference! Close the doors, and you can actually hear yourself think with the engine running. Still need to install the door panels but those will be easy. The carpet on the kick panels needed to be glued-in-place, so I shot 2 coats of 3M...

    Trailer Brake Controller

Just curious to know which trailer brake controllers have been used on these CUCV's. I need to install one, and would like it to be as simple as possible. Don't care for all the electronic gizmo's, just need it to work when it needs to. Thanks in advance for your experiences.

    M1008 Build

I'm just now getting into this conversation so I will provide my comments: The adjustable pitman that connects the steering gear arm to the steering knuckle on the wheel is the method of adjusting the steering wheel position. It is simple - the nuts on the threaded sleeve assembly (#12 in...

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

My pace is picking up. Got the cab floor cleaned and the Kilmat installed. The Kilmat was somewhat difficult to cut all the pieces around the contours of the cab floor, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Because I am abandoning the transfer case lever and linkage and replacing the assembly with a...

Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

I always try to clean and reuse as many original and OEM parts as I can. Some things, I know, just aren't available anymore, but many times NOS parts are available on Ebay. Let me know if I can help source some things and ship them to you.

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

Interesting. Thanks. I just now requested a sample of the 383 Green mat.

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

While I am waiting on my body-shop guy to shoot the final coat of paint on the bed, I decided to cut the hole in the cab floor to mount the new cable shifter. Got the hole cut and verified that the shifter will fit and cable will work, and now I am lightly sanding the cab floor in preparation...

    Versions of HMMWV Tachometers

I got it figured out. I grounded the tach case and it worked as designed. So I learned something today. Thanks for everybody’s help.

    Versions of HMMWV Tachometers

Yes I spun it in both directions and also swapped the leads to the sender. Needle still dead. Do you think the tach case should be grounded also?

Different Way to Plumb Dual Fuel Tanks

Skinny - I got my saddle tanks mounted and the manual valve in place and plumbed. You can see how I did it here https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/kinda-got-carried-away-m1028-rebuild.54469/post-2426941

Wiring HMMWV tachometer in M1028 truck

I'm attempting to install a HMMWV tachometer in my M1028 truck. I'm installing a new 6.5 diesel engine, therefore I don't need the 6.2 vacuum pump anymore, so I purchased a new HMMWV tachometer and sending unit. But before I go to the effort to design and fabricate a custom bracket in my...

    Versions of HMMWV Tachometers

It's been over two years since I purchased the brand new Tach and am just now getting around to installing it. Before I go to the effort to design and build a custom gauge panel for the tach, I wanted to test it with the sending unit to make sure everything worked. Well, I connected 24v and...
