    Mothballing curiosity question

FWIW: I've switched to renewable diesel (HVO, not biodiesel). Purportedly per the manufacturer, it has better storage characteristics, but not 5-10 years good. All the best, 2PbFeet

    Mep 831A load issues

Crosshead? As in large engine/compressor? Saw?... Just curious. I am glad that itis working well for you now! All the best, 2PbFeet

    Mep 831A load issues

I've never tried dipping for terminals. I'd try Amazon for U1 or U2 terminal covers, or whatever your battery size is. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Sea-Dog-415115-1-Battery-Terminal/dp/B00A3I23NQ All the best, 2PbFeet

    Mep 831A load issues

Nice! I would comment that I personally am not a big fan of uninsulated battery terminals close to metal surfaces, but that's me based on prior experiences. All the best, 2PbFeet

    MEP-803a with Start/Stop Lever Issue

Do you mean the 10-32 clip in cage nuts? If so, Bolt Depot, McMaster-Carr or eBay or Fastenal, or most any other bolt and nut supplier. They are a common nut for computer racks, so that maybe another source. All the best, 2PbFeet

    Mep 831A load issues

Henkel, makers of Locktite, have adhesives for all sorts of things that get esoteric pretty quickly. Fun to browse if you like that sort of thing. So do 3M and Corning/Dow. I didn't know about the 660 either until I had a key fail in a keyway that then wallowed out the keyway on a shaft that...

    Mep 831A load issues

@grywitt If it were me, I would lean towards a glue (thread locker /locktite), rather than a screw, so if it ever were to need adjustment, it would be posssible. If the surface is worn or pitted from the slipping Locktite makes a metal laden locker that might help (Locktite 660). The 660 on the...

State of emergency in New Jersey 🤷‍♂️

What's a "birtha"? New one on me... All the best, 2PbFeet

    Waste Oil in MEP802/3

Waste vegetable oil or waste engine oil? I wouldn't put the latter in an engine that I cared about. The ash content will come back to bite the engine (combustion chamber and injectors). There are some military documents, and there's this from the EPA...

    MEP-362a

It might depend a bit on your budget, but Victron and EG4 both make inverters and chargers that are popular with the off grid folks that I know. Personally, I would also go the inverter route rather than trying to couple to a turbine shaft, for balance reasons if nothing else. The price on kW...

MEP TQG Fuel Pumps - For MEP owners without a spare on the shelf

Words to live by. Thanks to @Light in the Dark for raising the potential disruption / threat to 24V parts from First brands. I'd also point out the disruption to other common parts like, wiper blades. Now is a good time to check your stocks. All the best, 2PbFeet

MEP TQG Fuel Pumps - For MEP owners without a spare on the shelf

There’s reportedly something like $2B in cash missing. This has all the signs of being really Fubar. Some of the creditors are asking the courts to remove the founder and current management. All the best, 2PbFeet

    803A Hits a Wall at 9.3kW

If it were me, I wouldn't be puttting evaporust there. Don't get me wrong it has its merits, but my concern is future corrosion and impact to the windings. It has some rather interesting ingredients. If it were me, I would put a few drops of something like PBblaster at the joint, and wait 24...

    802 tripping on overload

Balancing the load is always a good idea in my view. There is also changing the S8 voltage/phase switch to 120 only and putting all the heaters on 120. Some milk house heaters are 120/240 inside, so in my book, it never hurts to check to see what your options might be. For example, the 240V...

    802 tripping on overload

There's always rescuing/repurposing an old electric stove, or several electric dryers elements with new fans, or looking for some "scratch & dent" electric heaters. E.g. I rewired a 10kW heater with three elements to give me a DIY load bank with 1.6/3.3/4.9/6.6/10kW. Not as compact as a purpose...

    MEP-531A surging/hunting

Good catch. These engines are quiet intolerant of air in the fuel. All the best, 2PbFeet

Trying a new idea for the exhaust on my 802a

Nice job on the custom Venturi exhaust! If it were me, I would think about an air gap at the fence, since the fence is connected to the house via the rafters. (It's fire season out here, so we tend to see fire risks. Hammer/nail issue.) It might never happen, but I tend toward the view that...
