    Starter Running on

So, a few weeks ago, my starter crapped the bed in my work parking lot. I am also going to interject here by saying that I am a nursing student with very little time on my hands at the moment--so, if I seem like I'm trying to just throw parts at the problem or am not willing to trace circuits...

    Glow plugs ? Controller?

So, I parked the M1009 in the driveway last night after it had been running just fine. I went to start it for work, and the WAIT light took forever to go out. It turned over and over and the wait light came on again while I was cranking. I went through this a few times... Any ideas? I know I...

    Lift!

SOOOO, Let's say I wanted to put a 4" suspension lift in my M1009. A few years back, I replaced the front and rear ends with a front and rear end from a 1990, 3/4 ton(SF) Suburban. Do I need a lift that fits a '90 Suburban or a lift for an '85 Blazer? This may be an obvious answer to some...

    Freezin' in WI

Alright, all my SS brothers and sisters in the great Midwest and more northern areas (Canada, Alaska, etc.)--AKA, the frozen tundra--how the heck do you keep your CUCV beast "coldproof" and ready to run in the cold, especially in temps below zero degrees F? I drove mine to work (with no place...

    "Popping" noise in front end

So, whenever I go to turn, primarily to the left, I hear a loud "pop" underneath the driver's side near the wheel well. I've never changed out any of the steering components, so, I'm wondering what the likely culprit is. Is there a certain thing I should start with? Should I simply replace...

    Rear window slippin' down

So, this time it's my rear window... It rolls all the way up to the top, then stops short, roughly an inch or inch-and-a-half from the top. I can then push it the rest of the way up, but, it won't stay for very long. aua Why is it doing this? Any ideas jump out?

Best way to lift on a budget

So, if I want to add some strength to my old, weak springs, and may even a few inches of lift (4" max) in the process, what's the best, cheapest way today so (if there is such a thing)? I'm not afraid of the junkyard either if used springs are a possibility... Thanks, gents!

    Ignition Lock Cylinder/Hot wire/Push-button start?

This sucks... So, my ignition lock cylinder is so stripped out (I hope is isn't that whatchamacallit gear) that I can't even get the ignition to make contact to start the beast aua. Is there a way to bypass the ignition (hot-wire it, basically) to get it home where I have ready access to tools...

    Floor Shifter / Reverse Lights

Soooo, last spring, I installed a B&M floor shifter in my M1009. Why? Because I like having my shifter there :driver:--end of story. http://www.bmracing.com/products/80775-automatic-shifter-unimatic-shifter/?mk=&yr=&md=&smd=&eng= The problem--I need to find a way to get my reverse lights...

    Oil leak

I was under the beast today, adjusting the floor shifter I just installed, and was reminded of the oil leak that I've had since I bought the truck in 2012. Two Superbowl Sundays ago, I was undereath it in my in-law's garage replacing the oil pan gasket--not fun. It didn't fix the problem. It...

    Front end/Rear end Swap

Ok, so, last winter, the driver's side rear axle broke on my M1009. I'm a bit do-it-yourself-er--I do most of my own work, within reason, on vehicles and stuff around the house. I digress--I was very busy working on the railroad and I have very limited facilities in which to do repairs--like...

    Electrical

A month ago, my passenger side alternator started making noise. Nasty grinding and rattling. Bearings were obviously shot and I knew it was bad. I ordered the $44 rebuild kit from CUCV Electric, disconnected the belt, and pulled of the alternator. I just made sure I kept the rear battery...

    Got a rattle....

There's a bit of a rattle/knock on the front part of my engine on the passenger's side. I've only had time to take a glance and a quick listen so I'm throwing this out there to see what opinions I may get from the collective... My first thought is that it might be an alternator...Oil and...

    PeeWee's M1009 Build Thread

Figured I better do one of these, more to chronicle it for myself than for everyone else, but I like constructive criticism, advice, and feedback. Budget is tight and I'm a family man, but I definately have the green disease. I'm hooked. This is my daily driver, so, I like some creature...

    Mini-Camper Conversion-Electrical

Fellow MV owners, I'm going to start an apprenticeship as a Lineman soon. I'll be doing line construction and will be on the road quite a bit. Instead of paying $250-$350/per week for a hotel/motel rooms, I'm considering converting the back of my M1009 into a sleeping/camping area. Since I'm...

    '85 M1009 New owner questions

A few things here.... This thing is great, but, my main issue right now is that my dash/instrument lights don't work. I've checked all of the fuses (I can't read what they are on the block anymore), adjusted what is usually the brightness knob on the headlight switch, and changed all of the...
