I have a nice M1078, but it often (usually) won't start. Sometimes I go to start it and it fires right up. Often it won't start. I flip the master power switch on and push the starter button and nothing happens except a faint click seemingly in the dashboard. The starter does not turn over...
My M1078 has troop seats in the back bed. They seem to be thin fiberglass. I've seen pictures showing the troop seats folded up, I guess for more cargo room.
How do you get the seats to stay folded up?
Thanks, Steve
My M1078 has developed a generator problem I think. When I start it up the voltmeter reads about 27 volts. After about 3/4 mile of travel the voltmeter drops down to about half.
Can this be normal?
Can the truck be driven like this?
What should I trouble shoot?
I checked the battery...
On my M1078 I have a rotating beacon switch in the top left corner of the dashboard, but no rotating beacon. On the outside back of my cab is a small cannon plug type connector with just a two wire/two hole.
I looked up the cannon plug and it is for a rotating beacon.
Using my incredible...
It's been getting real cold here in north Florida. When I start my M1078 after a cold night (40 degrees F - don't laugh you guys up north) it blows a lot of smoke out of the exhaust pipe.
I have had many diesel engines, but most had some variety of glow plug to use before starting.
My M1078...
I've been having a good time in my new 1997 M1078. What a good truck. People tend to get out of my way!
Anyhow, what civilian lubricants and filters do I put in my M1078?
Engine Oil
Transmission Fluid
Hydraulic Fluid
Anti-Freeze
Differential Oil/Grease
Air Filter
Don't know all other filters...
Two weeks ago I bought a Steward & Stevenson M1078. The seller signed his valid title over to me.
Here is a very short version of the story.
I went to Lake City DMV to get my new title & tag. After two hours they said they could not issue them to me because I had a former military vehicle...
My new truck has a fan problem that has me stumped. I have gone over the manuals again and again. I've got the parts memorized, but I ca't fix it.
When I was driving it home at 50-54 MPH I heard a loud intermittent noise and vibration. Had to almost crawl home because it wouldn't happen at...
I just bought a M1078 and I'm excited about it. OK, it's silly.
Anyhow, I need cigarette lighter sockets to plug my power cables into for my GPS, etc.
Where can I find a 12 volt DC source to wire it into on this truck?
Thanks, Steve
Does an M1078 have spring brakes like a civilian vehicle?
I may not be asking this correctly.
If you lose air pressure in either brake system do the brakes come on to prevent a runaway vehicle?
Thanks, Steve
Hello all. I would like to buy a M1078. When I look on govplanet.com there are several of them for sale on their auction (close enough to drive home to North Florida). None of them start for their simple inspection.
I would like to hire a mechanic to check out a couple of these vehicles...
I am looking for a M934 5 ton truck. I have tried to learn about a well known online bidding site that sells military vehicles.
I understand the process. I just got off the phone with an agent for the bidding website. I learned that I cannot go to the site and look over the truck I might be...
Today, I looked at a 1942 Willy's Jeep that is supposed to be restored. I was told the body has been replaced from the windshield back. The engine has been rebuilt, but needs a carburetor. It is 12 volt. Nice paint job. New highway tires. No top. No shovel, etc. holder. Two front seats...
I now have an S250 shelter to go into my M1028A2 dually pick-up. Soon it will be painted and ready for installation. But, how do I install it? It has 4 short chains hanging from the top 4 corners and 4 small clevis rings on the 4 bottom corners.
I haven't found anything about installation...
I have a M1028 that I am delighted with. I would like to install a tach to keep an eye on engine RPM's.
How can this be done with the 6.2 engine? I heard one can be plugged in to the back of the alternator. What tach should I buy?
I thought I would show it off.
Thanks,
Steve
If this is the wrong forum, would a moderator please move it?
Here are pictures of a running Minesweeper. The front chain flail seems to mounted on a Ford tractor with a raised armored cab in the rear for the driver. The front tracks are all steel. The rear tires are pneumatic.
What is this...
This is my first post here. Forgive me if this is in the wrong place and move it.
I recently purchased an M1028 dually and today it wouldn't turn over fast enough to start. I've determined it needs new batteries. I've searched this site and gotten a whole lot of good information, but I can't...
