I am new to the 5 ton 818's. Do you drain the fuel filter like you would on a deuce? Do you turn the ignition on & then drain, or do you need to start the engine and drain while it's running?
I have a battery drain on a M818. It will go dead in one day. You can tell something is on when you connect the battery cable - it will spark. The alternator shows it charging nicely and even at a slow idle it never gets into the yellow or red on gauge. The truck runs out nicely other than that...

I was looking for a 818 & saw adds stating a sf97 will be applied in the new buyers name. Is that something simple like changing the name on the sf97 form on the GL requst form? Or is there more to it?
What is the difference between the M52a2 & the 818? I can tell that the engine is different, and the air filter location, but what else? Tire size, transmission, anything? Is the 54 just a older version?
Where do you look to see if a truck has been a depot rebuild? I have seen a few trucks that somehow came with a "punch list" showing what the military repairs where done & still needed. Some sellers say they have these records of maintenance from the military, is this possible?
