I need to hire someone to help with consolidating 30 or so 1/4 full tri-walls of field gear into 10 or so full tri-walls, and put a shipping label on them. Please send me a PM if you are near this location.
Warthog and I scheduled a quick towbar recovery of a M35A2 today. We used a M931A2 as the primary tow vehicle, but when it gave out, we used the LSSV to pull them both to the finish line.
The truth is I ran out of fuel in the left tank as we pulled in the gate, and couldn't get it switched over.
After I switched to 33" tires, I decided I needed some step rails to help the young and old enter the vehicle. After looking over several designs, I found this "six step" design I liked. The steps run from wheel well to wheel well and provide a convenient 3rd step for getting things out of the...
I didn't like the 245 tires that were original issue on the LSSV so I decided to try some HMMWV wheels and 33x12.50 tires instead. I used 1/2" spacers on the front and the front tires will rub (slightly) on the upper control arms (at full lock). I think it looks a little more proportional now...
After seeing my good friend Warthog roll through the July 4th parade with A/C in his new CUCV II, I decided it was time to upgrade my trusty M1009.
Where I come from, it ain't how it looks, but how ya' roll. Right, Warthog?
I saw these photos on foxnews.com today and thought they were too sexy not to share.
Here is the blurb from the article:
The replacement for the U.S. military’s iconic Humvee isn’t set to enter production until 2015, but the competition for what could end up being a $20 billion contract is...
I need some input on proper towing procedures for M939 series trucks.
The operators manual Indicates that damage to automatic transmission will result from towing unless transfer is in neutral. That is surely common sense and I have towed many M809 series trucks this way. However, the manual...
Wow, I learn something new everyday. Government liquidation sold off over 100 M931 tractors yesterday at Camp Shelby in Event 10182 that didn't need an EUC. (I bid on a few and have already received my paid-in-full invoice.) They have NSN 2320-01-047-8753. Sample link here: 2320 - Trucks & Truck...
With the high cost and short life span of a 1 ton 4x4, it was time to modifiy a M35A3 for serious ranch work. This truck has a 3000# cake/cube feeder and a hydraulic hay bed for loading and unrolling round hay bales. Rear locker, front hubs, and 100amp battery equalizer were also added.
As part of the refurbishment process on my M870A1, I need to purchase new wood decking for it. I know the trailer manufacture Load King uses full 2" rought cut Apitong on all their trailers, but what other suitable alternatives are there for a 40 ton lowboy? BTW, Local prices on Oak are almost...
Thanks to a tip from local SSer Hoopsoft, I bought a rough M870A1 trailer from a guy less than 10 miles away from my shop. Last night, I fired up the M915A1 and Tru Hitch to go and recover it (in the dark). The trailer is in desperate need of some TLC. No kingpin, no decking, no brakes, no...
In my search for a lowboy trailer, I have found/taken a few pics of the M870 and M870A1 trailers. I think my favorite is the M983 HEMTT and M870. The M916 with armored cab is a close 2nd.
I want to carry spare cage bolts in the M915A1 for the truck and any trailer I might be pulling. I have found that the original bolts are typically rusty/corroded/stuck or missing. Where can these be purchased?
Warthog and I recovered a M915A1 from Saginaw, TX yesterday using the Truhitch towing device. The rear tires on the tractor were flat/bad/missing, so a rear lift was needed. We tied the steering wheel off using ratchet straps and away we went. Thanks Warthog!
Last night I spotted a M911 southbound on I-35. It was painted as a work truck and said Barnhart on the door. After I quick search on the internet, I found this video showing 2 M911s in use:
I found a few torque rods in the shop and thought a comparison picture of the deuce and 5 ton equivalent was worth a post! I put a listing in the classifieds here http://www.steelsoldiers.com/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=5294
I love the way the M915A1s drive, but I wanted a little more road speed and a little more attitude. I found both with a set of Goodyear MVT 395/85R20 tires. With the help of Mr. M813A1 on Monday, we swapped over the street duals to the super singles. Wow, what a difference! Aggressive...
Have you ever had the front wheels of towed vehicle lockup sideways while moving at highway speed? I have experienced the dreaded wheel lock many times while towing deuces around corners, but never on the interstate! We are still not sure what happened or why, but Tackettr put up a post...
