New M-1083 owner. So, here we go!!

Well, it's been a while. My dreams of making a crazy camper out of my truck changed. Living in the desert, we haul water. Our water company that delivers went out of business and guess what I did. The tank is 1350 gallons with a 225 GPM pump. Fills my holding tank in no time. The standpipe where...

New M-1083 owner. So, here we go!!

It's been a minute.... AZ has had a brutal summer, and I was forced to switch gears and come up with a plan for shade. Local concrete is $8 a Sq. Ft. Uh, nope...dirt it is... Hopefully back to the truck!!

    Oil Pump (Failure) - 3116, 3126, & C7

This chart applies to 3116/3126 engines. I want to do the pump also as I am at the lower end of acceptable. When I visited the dealer, I was informed of a pump update for the 3116. Evidentially it went from a gear type to a gerotor type pump. The REMAN was $750 and the new pump was $1800 or so...

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

For those who have installed these, did you just install and go, or verify/adjust the wheel bearings then install? And can you properly adjust the wheel bearing with the tire installed? Just curious...

New M-1083 owner. So, here we go!!

The one I used, pictured above, fit perfect and came with everything. EXCEPT it is 12v. I didn't have time to order and wait for a 24v unit. Yes, the original one has an electrical wire to. I always assumed it was for a heater but could be wrong. I could have even used the original mounting...

New M-1083 owner. So, here we go!!

good to know. I am going to call them and maybe ill just send mine in for a rebuild. While I know I can do it, I have 62 thousand other things i'm doing and my time is running short...

New M-1083 owner. So, here we go!!

So, I was washing off all the diesel on the side of the engine and found this plate on the air compressor leaking quite a bit of air. I am also getting some engine oil around the vent of my brand-new air dryer. So, I guess it's rebuild time. Actually, I think I am just going to buy a reman unit...

New M-1083 owner. So, here we go!!

ok will check it. The damage is from a chain wrench... That filter was pristine with only the crack in it yesterday. Only hand tight when installing the new one.... Thanks Ronmar!!

New M-1083 owner. So, here we go!!

Not a good day yesterday. I was running into town to get another pallet of brick when I started smelling diesel fuel. I pulled into a gas station and saw fuel dripping all over and the side of the engine wet. I lifted the cab and discovered my fuel filter spraying fuel. It split! Like just...

Did I just buy a 2023 LMTV M1078A1 or not?

I buy tires there all the time. I wish they would take pics of the large metal rods protruding through the tread rendering the tire useless.... Oh, and tires that are listed one week, and gone the next, never having been bid on? Those FMTVs have been there for a while. Every time I ask when they...

M1078a1 total operating cost per mile?

Yes. If that's how you chose to do it. My "Kentucky Windage" way of calculating it was after the 5k initial sorting. I chose to look at it that way so when I plan a future trip, I can guestimate costs. Previous money spent wouldn't add to future trip costs. That money is already gone. I just...

M1078a1 total operating cost per mile?

That $2.50 doesn't include the 5k initial sorting I did when I bought it. It didn't seem fair to include it. Now that I'm fully turnkey and drive, with standard maintenance and 7 90% tires, I think it's a fair number. Give me a year of ownership and I might have to adjust that a bit... Time will...

    6x6 V-Link Boots

I found the boot kit. They have a lot in stock and the price seems quite reasonable, but, I thought the boots were solid with no center hole or am I wrong? It even has the tool to crimp/tighten the retaining wire..

M1078a1 total operating cost per mile?

I spent a few minutes on this. With upkeep, fuel, insurance and all, I think my MTV is in the $2.50 a mile range.... This, of course, is only a guess..

    M1083 6x6 brake part

I just put new diaphragms in all my rears and thought they were the same?! What is different about them? Maybe I missed something?
