the cummins would be your best choice for such a project but the 3126 cats are around the same size but personally id stay far away from catipiller as possible as the parts tend to be alot more costly and the 3126 engines are no were near as reliable as the 5.9
did you replace the clutch with a new one or just get it cut and re-lined cause it's strange to see a clutch that large be a push type and all thses ten tons you have is awesome
id try takeing it apart and cleaning it up if that dosent work any place that sells heavy truck parts should be able to get a new or re-man one for you
with the lack of bad noises id say theres a good chance that no damage was done to the valves but you have to wonder what caused there to be enough resistance on the cam to make it stop hopefully its not sized in the block or anything of that nature
im assumeing that your truck is more of a toy than a daily work horse so it could last quite awile. you can't put a big cam in a small cam block as the blcok is diffrent but they are almost identical engine so if you did want later down the road you could upgrade with not alot of difficulty
the only issue with putting jake brakes on the small cam cummins is that over time the jake brake will wear off the lobes of the cam wich is one of the reasons cummins went to the big cam engine
styandine rotoray pumps like the ones used on 6.2,6.5,6.9,7.3 have a rubber retainer ring in between the govoner weight basket and retianer . over time they break down poor fuel and sitting just makes the process quicker the other issue with theses pumps is that the houseing is made of...
