Mechanic or Shop in the Charleston SC area?

Try to list your tasks I am sure most of these fine folks here have started where you are and succeeded. Download the TM from this site. 90% of all tasks can be done by a somewhat skilled mechanic with a decent toolbox. The manuals are written for highschool graduates to understand if you...

Serpentine belt keeps destroying forward rib

I used the Bando 8PK2490, which is 249 cm (2490 mm) equals to 98 inches... It works quite well for my 1999 M1123: https://www.amazon.com/Bando-USA-8PK2490-Belts/dp/B000CAXIQ6

Serpentine belt keeps destroying forward rib

In my case the most upper pulley attachments bolt was lose, but still held everything in place. It also pushed the belt forward a bit due to the incorrect angle. You can barely notice the alignment when looking, but when I removed the belt it rattled around. Didn't cause my belt to tear, but...

OUT AND ABOUT WITH MY HMMWV

Finally made it the entire 65 miles from the house to Mt Rushmore... Great day yesterday.

"Old Tires Suck" well it wasn't the age.

I tried an alternate version of this, worked pretty good. Not as fast as this gentleman, but still easy. Then Feltz tires offered 90% with rims as quoted earlier and haven’t touched run flats again.

Even the new rubber one-piece are a PITA. Takes brute force to get them out of the tire, best if you don't plan on reusing the tire, but possible.

Give them a call. IIRC I spoke with Tyler, they have mounted ones in stock. They’re awesome to work with.

. If you haven't already, check out Feltz tires... I got 4 load rated E, 24 bolt pattern with a DOT of 2018 for $1,055 delivered to South Dakota. Very happy with them, they are military balanced, between 12 and20 ounces of weights on each, run really good without major vibrations... Edit: I...

Post a photo (or describe) your HMMWV travel tool kit

. I used to have the $85 dollar/year plan for over 17 years, never had any need for any service. Then my SUVs timing belt came apart in 2019, the towing was still $165 after all was said and done and after the "free" miles. I did the math, I paid over $1,445 for over 17 years membership, saved...

Now that you mention that, I absolutely agree. It’s wrapped around a vehicle pole, so folding is it out, but I need to store it more respectfully… 26 years military active duty should have tought me better . Thanks for pointing this out.

Pretty simple, spare tire, jack, rain tight footlocker with 12 volt portable 8,000 lbs marina winch to be hung on the pintle hook or chained to the front, diesel treatment, a tarp, tire iron, another small toolbox with diverse tools, Jerry can for spare fuel, cargo net for groceries, wheel...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Maybe soon the American manufact will make a comeback. I agree most chinacrap barely passes for something usable , but like you said, it is almost impossible to find real quality assemblies. I’m sure they’re out there, and one may have to do some mature research to locate them. For a minor...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

It's been a while driving, maintaining and updating the 1999 M1123. Recently I have built and installed a center console for added accessories such as a stereo, cabin lights, voltmeters for the aft battery (transmission supply) and both together, placed the GPS speedo, analog tach, an inside...

    HMMWV M1123 Serpentine Belt Question

I found an aftermarket belt for roughly $17, vs the $45 original... Here are the specs: Bando 8PK2490 I have installed a Bando 8PK2490 belt for $17 on my 1999 M1123, perfect fit.

    Brake Bleeding with Turn Plates?

It is highly recommended and written in the TO to raise the front to 15 degrees. So, lifting/jacking is important. Also, the brake bleeding won't be affected by this, unless your truck model is built that way, I am going off of my M1123...

    Fixing the 1998 HMMWV

That paint matches spot on, as long as the truck isn't moderately or badly faded... I love this stuff. Did you get this from RapcoParts?

    A/C Diagnostic help

I think it is normal since the push pull cable will only activate the valve a 1/4 turn. Some have a "stop" detent built into the valve, but most do not.

    M1123 parasitic draw. Solenoid?

No Trans light. Good news. I will get to the TCM shortly, after I replace the fuse in my multimeter. Word for the wise, be careful which measurement range you chose before measuring... The fuse in the meter WILL blow

    M1123 parasitic draw. Solenoid?

Hi all. I've had the 1999 M1123 for just about a year now, and in the past two months the batteries have been drained (more likely the battery that is connected to the TCM). In about 10 days the voltage drops below 11.5 V. I have been able to let the truck sit for up to 5 weeks without any...

    Softer Springs

I’m certain most of us are running civilian truck/SUV/car pressures. We should keep in mind that these are designed for military applications, they have beadlocks or runflats for a reason. A good example of a lesson learned is my trike vs the motorcycles we ride. The wife and I each ride 1400...
