    M817 Belt Tightening Question

The belt does not go around the water pump. It is the pulley above it and it only goes to the compressor/fuel pump.

I cannot figure out how to tighten the center upper most belt. It is a single belt and runs to the pulley of the compressor/fuel pump. I understand how to tighten the alternator and power steering pump. Any help would be appreciated. C

    M916 to Dump Trailer

Answered my own questions today. Yes, you can use the Aux. hydraulic out port with the right hydraulic coupler and operate a dump trailer. Works great. The main issue is that the M916's 5th wheel is so tall - the trailer is way out of level. But, for the off road applications I use it for...

    M916 to Dump Trailer

Anyone ever connected your M916 to a dump trailer with the auxiliary hydraulics? If so did you install a valve after the aux. hydraulics ports?

    M916 Auxilillary Hydraulics at Winch

Yes, I am aware that the 5th wheel is bigger on the M916. I currently have it connected to the 25 ton M127A1 and have an adapter sleeve that goes around civilian king pins so I can pull them with it.

    M916 Auxilillary Hydraulics at Winch

Thank you for the advice. I will take the cover off and look to see how the lines are set up. It has two auxiliary ports at the base of the controls in the back.

How do I utilize the auxiliary hydraulics and not engage the winch? I want to use my M916 to operate a dump trailer.

M915 low power. Looking for likely problems.

Found the issue. Semi-loose fuel line connection at the fuel pump. It was sucking air at higher rpm's. FYI for all who are reading. Truck runs excellent now.

M915 low power. Looking for likely problems.

On mine, I am still confused. It has full power most of the time, then loses power - truck barely moves 10 mph - then back to normal. Again, changed air filters and fuel recently. Each time it does it I change the fuel filter. A Cummins mechanic told me to clean the leads on the fuel shutoff...

Yes, black smoke when it is not moving like it should. When it is running normal everything is fine, when it loses power it smokes like a train - and will not rev up above 1000 rpms - then it clears and screams down the haul road again. Never thought about a clogged muffler.

    M917 Drivetrain noise

Could be your pinion bearing, although that should sound worse under load. I would start with changing the fluid with a synthetic like Amsoil.

Is there an adjustment on the fuel pump? My M917 is acting up in a similar way, except it has a lot of power - then a little - then a lot - then a little. I can't make sense of it. Replaced all filters, checked lines, etc.

    M917 Drivetrain noise

Check the fluid levels in the axles first, look at the drive shafts, check for play in the u joints and the pinion bearings, lift the wheels individually and check for "play" in the wheel bearings, etc. Exhaust all possibilities before opening up and pulling things apart. If all seems OK, then...
