    Air shifted Sprag problems

Got back to the working on the truck today, temp finally below 100+. I pulled off the front driveshaft and it was under tension. Now I can push and pull the sprag shaft in and out. When it is pulled to the forward position is it engaging the front or rear? Also what port on the poppet valve...

    Air shifted Sprag problems

I rebuilt the case and when the transfercase was out I tested it with shop air and you could hear a thunk when it went forward and reverse. In the truck you can hear air dump out of the valve when you shift from forward to reverse and vice versa, but no thunk of engagement of the sprag. I...

    Air shifted Sprag problems

I have been having issues with my M818 sprag. I hear an air sound when putting the transmission into 1st or Reverse. However, when I try to climb a dirt pile the front is not engaged. I was able to test the air cylinder with the shops air and it does shift. Any ideas or things to try. I...

Just got M818, bearing and seals questions

I finally got a chance to pull the transfercase apart. I found some bits of bearing cage still in the case(can sort of see in the pic). My question is the pic of the bearing supposed to have a cage, this is the bearing on the front top of the case. If the Pic doesn't show there is no cage around...

Just got M818, bearing and seals questions

My main reason to pull the sprag is to look at it's condition. If it the sprag clutches are damaged severly or any large pieces of metal are present I know that it(whole transfercase) will need to be replaced. I only have a day or so to work on the truck before we get back into the fields so I...

Just got M818, bearing and seals questions

Well I drained the transfercase today. Found parts of the bearing cage on the magnetic plug. I reached up and found bigger parts of the cage. Some filings, so my next step is to pull the bearing retainer and sprag. Then I can see just what damage is in there. I am more then likely going to...

Just got M818, bearing and seals questions

There are leaking pinion seals on each axle, so I think that the seals need to be replaced. Is it possible to pull the sprag unit with out pulling the transfercase from the truck? Then I can check gears sprag, etc. Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Just got M818, bearing and seals questions

I just bought an M818 and drove it 200 miles home. On the way home the pinion seals started to leak. Can I remove the bearing retainer put a new seal in and then reinstall with out doing the preload? Or is it possible to remove the seal without taking the bearing retainer off? The next...

    CUCV starter on 350 Gas

I figured I would ask over here since CUCV parts are your domain. I am converting a M715 to a 350 V8 and have access to a CUCV gear reduction starter. I have done a number of searches here and on the M715 site with conflicting "yes" and "no" on it working. Anybody here know what issues will come...

    Deuce Battery Cable Guage?

Skin effect is an electromagnetic phenomena that depends on frequency AND diameter. It has absolutely nothing to do with the number of strands. If I recall correctly, 4/0 is good to 125Hz with full ampacity. Smaller guages can operate at full ampacity and higher frequencies due to smaller...

    Deuce Battery Cable Guage?

The number of strands only makes it easier to bend. The cross sectional area is the same. The I^2*R losses will be the same. The local electrical shop makes 4/0 cables for large diesel engines that need 1500 amps. Deuces have smaller engines and are 24V. #2 is roughly half the ampacity of...

Need ideas for an alternator bracket for GM 350

I am swapping a 350 into the M715, it had a 24 volt 100 amp humvee alternator and I would like to keep it. Any ideas about brackets. The universal mount on the exhaust, does not look strong enough. The alternator is quite heavy, and I am unable to find any others who kept there old...

18 mpg m37 "plus" more power!!!

I put that same carb, aircleaner setup on a couple years ago. Great improvement. I didn't change the jetting. I just have a pertronix and that carb. Starts right up and runs great. Great fence fixing truck with 11.00 16 tires.

    M725 carb??

HEI and a 2 barrel carb does wonders, starts right up, runs down the road with no problems. The HEI requires you to lose the fuel pump/vacum pump but an electric pump with a big spin is a huge improvement.

    Priming fuel pump for R6602

On my gas powered M52 the fuel pump has a lever to prime the fuel pump and push fuel up to the carb(Not the primer pump to push fuel into the manifold). Was there a kit to do this from the cab. It is very difficult to get to, and with not running it but every month means a lot of cranking...

    Rims for M52

How hard is it to flip the hubs so the front and back track the same? We have flipped the hubs on a 2 1/2ton, is it similar? I like the look of the combat rims, but shipping puts the cost out of my reach. Thanks for all the help.

    Rims for M52

I would like to use these rims with 14.00x20 tires on my M52. I am unsure if the back spacing is correct. With the lock ring on the outside it is 3” + offset or 8 ¾ “ back side measurement from edge of wheel. Thanks for the help.

    What are these rims for?

They have around 4 inches from the outer edge of the beadlock to the outside of the flange. Nick
