Yeah, the body has to go. Unfortionately it's just too far gone I'm afraid. Maybe tomorrow I can get some shots of the rot. Heck, most of the cab, windshield, fenders, hood, steps and all have to go. Sitting on the edge of the bay for the last decade has not been kind to the body. Lucky for the...
Through two hot batteries in it just a few minutes ago, and after spinning it over about 3 times, she fired up and idled just a purring. I couldn't get the grin off my face. Rediculous how awesome I feel moving it around the yard, can't wait until I can install the winch and build the 4...
So it took way longer than I wanted, but she's finally home. :jumpin:
Now for new batteries, freeing up the shut off cable so I can shut it down without having to stall it in 5th, and then I HAVE to get the brakes all redone. All new lines and probably wheel cylinders too. Hey, atleast it's...
Just wanted to say the rally was a really nice event. First one I've ever attended. Met a few ss folks, spent some money, and came back with some great knowledge, a new cab and a winch to get my 5 ton project started this fall hopefully. Thanks again guys.
Been around many racing hoods that require stock hinges and latches? I can't count how many fiberglass cowl hoods I've seen with oak in the hinge areas or the latch? Aluminum would be wonderful in most areas, but isn't always best. Wood can be shaped much better for strength at latch points most...
He'll just use my existing hood to make the mold from. Lay glass and resin over it so it holds tight to it, pop it off after it dries and presto, instand mold. Then just do it in reverse, feather out the underhood, or if need be make another mold for the inside, then form the 2 halves into a...
No problems darwin. As for the hardtop I wouldn't mold the lights in it. Easier to add them later on if that's what you wanted. I'm all about function over form. So if I need to change something over stock so that it works better I'm all for it.
Give me a couple weeks and I'll see what my...
The whole point of the fiberglass is to replace a heavy rusting steel hood. Unless you're a twig, I don't see you being able to walk on them. As for the hard tops, and please forgive my ignorance here, but do they just unbolt so as I could have a mold of one popped?
Yeah, I don't see these being anywhere close to that. I'll get up with him just as soon as I get back off vacation in a couple weeks. Over in the deuce forum they brought up fiberglass hardtops? Do they just unbolt from the tub? I know thats probably going to make a few of you point and laugh...
I've seen this guy build one off car tubs, so I know he can do it. I hadn't thought about it but getting him to make the hard top out of fiberglass might be easier than me doing it out of metal when I 4 door it.
And yes, I have a different hood than a deuce, but the same cab I *think*...
I am very much a newbie actually. ;-) So no worries. I posted over there too. If someone wants to lend me a hood I'd pay for the mold fee and just have them done on a cost basis. My cab and such is the same as an M35 I believe, but the hood I 'think' is the same as the 800 series if I've read...
So I'm thinking about having a friend pop my 5ton hood out of fiberglass. He's really reasonable, and if it isn't too much for the consecutive ones, is anyone interested in loaning me a deuce hood to have done? If it turns out like I want it can be raised if needed or left stock for the guys...
Yeah, I'm going to have to pay for the mold, and then I'll get to keep it. But it won't cost too much after that for each consecutive hood made. How much higher would it need to be, and where at on the hood needs raised? I've just got the duece multi fuel engine so I don't know if a turbo swap...
No sir, it's an M63A2 Seorl bodied 5 ton. Haven't run across many of them, and it isn't the easiest to find info. It was a rolling machine shop, although I plan on making it a 4 door and possibly bobing it. However, the hood needs replacing and I just didn't know if anyone had seen many...
So the M63A2 I'm buying has some rust issues. Cab is pretty bad off, as are some side peices, and I was thinking about having a buddy just pop a mold off the existing hood and make it out of fierglass. Surely it'll be lighter and easier to handle wouldn't it?
Anyone ever seen one or had it...
