    Problem with MEP-003a

So yesterday in the nor'easter we had here in CT the power went off. Yippee, I get to use the genset. All good, starts right up and I go back playing ham radio. Fast forward 30 minutes and the power goes out. Genset is stopped. I know there is plenty of fuel. I get a flashlight and start looking...

Looking for 1 or 2 AM6154 vhf amplifiers

These were used by the FAA & have been cycled out. Looking for 1 or 2 for a ham radio project. Incomplete units may be considered also. Thanks

It's been 3-1/2 years but now its finally worth it!

I thought it would be a snow or ice storm that would finally give me an opportunity to fire up the 003A for real. Today it was 90 & super humid and the expected thunderboomers came through. Boy did they ever! This tree is right around the corner from our house and has been down for over 3 hours...

    MP-003A generator part number

I have a chance to pick up this genset VERY cheaply. The owner tells me something shorted out in the generator itself. Taking his word for that, I am having a hard time finding the part number for the generator section. . . My manual doesn't show it :( and searching through the manual here was...

Twinning the exhausts on an 003A?

Has anyone tried this? I have been thinking about using a "Y" fitting to twin the 2 1-1/4" exhausts into one 2" pipe. Any know issues? The only thing I thought of was the possiblity of some back pressure, I think the "Y" fitting should negate that.

So how accurate is the % rated meter on the MEP-003A?

Or this thread could be titled, "How long could I procrastinate before finishing my ammeter monitoring box?". I finally finished installing the digital ammeters on top of the power distribution box of the generator. I used 2 Chinese digital meters with 2 current transformers. Its a simple...

Ahhh that nasty governor adjustment on the MEP-003A

So my genset is now installed and running. I have had it loaded to about 90% of rated load using the house appliances - upper & lower ovens, toaster, ac, etc). Although the voltage barely moves from 0 to the load I applied (maybe a volt) the frequency is another matter. I get almost 3 Hz droop...

Tier Two Reset - exactly what do they do to the engine?

The mep-003a that I picked up at FT Meade a month ago has this tag on it that says: Tier Two Reset by Letterkenny What does that mean in so far as the engine / mechanical parts go? The control cabinet look brand new - no corroded wires / screws, meters all work & look fine. Yet the oil...

    MEP-003A circuit breaker rating

Has anyone ever actually measured the trip current running single phase 230 volt loads on this genset. I have read either 50 or 52 amps but wonder what they actually trip at with a steady load.

    Exhaust piping the mep-003a

I have placed my genset inside my garage between two garage doors. The generator is set back a bit so the exhaust pipes are about 30 inches from the door. My plan is to pipe them both up about 42 inches then run horizontally the 30 inches so they are just inside the door when its down. When I...

    oil pressure cut out pressure???

I fired up my new (to me) mep-003a today. Just cleaned out the filter canisters, installed new cartridges & followed sewerzuk's basic start up proceedure. Easy Peasy :-D The one glitch was it wouldn't stay running after releasing the start position. Took all of 2 minutes to find a bad oil...

    Converting MEP-003A trailer ??

My son will towing my 003 up from MD this week (we both snagged one on the recent auction). Apparently they are in as 'like new' condition you can get from a refurbished unit. He fired his up this afternoon with no issues. My original intent was to leave it on the trailer but after thinking...
