I agree with both welldigger and M-35Tom. The diesel does not produce near the engine breaking of a gas engine and therefore should not be relied upon for downhill breaking that one can get with a gas engine truck. And right again it helps to ease it into gear rather than just stuffing it...
Dear Chris,
Firstly - CONGRATS on the addition! I can just imagine how happy you are. I am ecstatic and I just found out from my son that I will be a grandfather in Feb. Secondly - I had to make the same declaration two years ago when my mom became ill and I had to drop my participation in the...
I guess I am surprised that no one else has mentioned Condon and Skelly a Met Life company. Initially theyt wanted garage coverage b ut my agent told them that I had a would store it in a field unseen from the street. This is my second year and the price is the same for basic coverage. The...
I bought mine from wreckerman893. It was the best for me as I did not have a great deal of experience with trucks and his was a well maintained unit. Also couldn't beat the delivery charge; brought it to the next Ralley for free. [thumbzup] So I recommend the Steel Soldiers classified adds...
Great Job and nice shop also. Good planning on location. My comment on the use of one battery is that if you only plan to use it when the engine is running - then the electrical system wouldn't even see the 12/15 watt radio. But if you plan to use it a lot when the engine is off or add some...
:beer:My money is on Stumps! Best explanation I have read on an intermittent problem in a good long while. The jumper wire to eliminate any electrical problems or isolate the problem to the electrical side is also a great way of splitting the system in half to isolate the problem. Yea buy the...
Marks comment makes more sense than 17 in a Duce. But I have been the other side of the coin when hauling
stuff for the 25+ year old kids. I get the worst mileage when someone else is paying.
Congratulations. I bought mine from Wreckerman and have had a blast. This is a great group of guys and girls and I couldn't be happier with my decision.
Welcome! Its a great life. [thumbzup]
Ps I use mine to pick up firewood from the local furniture builders for winter and carry the local...
Recovery is dead on. On a Duce, solving every electrical problem includes cleaning off corrosion somewhere. Just don't understand where it all comes from.
One trick that John and Reckerman taught me was to remove the plug from the break switch under the truck on the airpac and stick in...
Great idea to clean up the corrosion don't understand why it gets into everything in a Duce.
If you have to further troubleshoot the problem a trick that John and Reckerman taught me was to pull the plug off the brake switch on the air booster and use a piece of wire to jumper across the two...
You might pull one of the wheel brake cylinders on each vehicle and evaluate how much brake work each needs. Came as a big surprise to me.
RGRG on the surplus DOT 5 - you can't afford DOT 5 from the local auto parts store.
Right about the oil level should be 1" above full when cold. Had this same problem including clouds of smoke caused by oil from breather splashing on exhaust pipe.
Diesel mixing with oil was diagnosed by feeling dipstick oil. Much thinner. That was done roadside by a fellow MV'er not me...

Have a field telephone to loan to the cause. Could even come up with some wire. Have plenty [1/8 mile] of the good copper stuff the phone company uses.
:nothingfunny:
Look on the positive side, keeping it in the garage gives you many more choices when it comes to insurance companies. Many of them require that it be locked up for coverage.
A number of the Avatar picures are great. I automatically click on them thinking that they will get bigger. BUZZ Nope. And when I go to the owners site the avatar is the same size as that in the original post. Anything you can do to let us see a larger size or the original post that was turned...
