    M-1009 heater hoses and thermostat

Replaced my temperature sending unit and light now seems to stay off but my thermostat housing was leaking after I replaced the thermostat. Another day, another gasket. My old sending unit had a crappy looking soldering spot that fell off when I removed it. Makes me wonder if that was the...

    M-1009 heater hoses and thermostat

Appreciate the response. You don't happen to have a good part number/source for that sender. Thinking this is the one on the front of the engine drivers side next to the first glow plug. I see a ACDELCO 2134792 {#88865045} Sensor; GM Original Equipment 1/2 Inch x 14 Thread; With Gauge and...

Looking for eastern VA based mechanic familiar with 6.2 in M1009

I am right there with you. This site has been great and appreciate all the support that you and others regularly give. From my purchase several years ago to date, this is the best resource hands down for MIL vehicles. I'm just at a point where I am looking for options if the guy fixing it...

Looking for eastern VA based mechanic familiar with 6.2 in M1009

Pretty sure it is a head gasket issue. Was pressurizing the radiator and causing coolant to overflow. so replaced the water pump, radiator, and thermostat. Was still getting pressure in the radiator but not making oil (water past the gasket into the oil system). Oil has been clean with no...

Looking for eastern VA based mechanic familiar with 6.2 in M1009

Would appreciate some help if anyone knows a mechanic in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach greater area of VA. I have a guy but he just can't seem to finish the job. Most of the shops around here don't want to mess with vintage diesels. I appreciate any help.

    M1009 Cooling System Overpressure

Thanks. Guessing the process is similar to a gas engine plus pulling the pink wire on the injection pump. I'm sure somewhere in the tech manuals it states what the proper pressure and variation between cylinders is but will take the answer if you know it!

    M1009 Cooling System Overpressure

Thanks. I replaced the glow plugs not too long ago so they should come out fairly easily. I have never touched the injectors so was hoping to stay away from those.

M1009 No Start. (GearTeeth Grinding?) (Issue after running out of fuel/refilling)

Sounds like you have air in the system and a misaligned starter. Perhaps the bucking of the truck when it ran out loosened up your starter and now it is misaligned. It is very easy to get one in wrong and many a lazy person has left the support bracket off which will really mess up things. I...

    M1009 Cooling System Overpressure

I think I have a blown head gasket but my carbon testing fluid is telling me otherwise. The top chamber is supposed to turn from blue to green but I tested it twice and same results. I am loosing coolant and seeing bubbles in the radiator. I am not "making oil" and the color is a nice brown...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Started my 1009 today! Had been sitting idle for a full year due to health problems I had been recovering from and finally go to working on it. Was diagnosing some starter hang issues that I was working on before my back surgery. I figured why not try and see if the batteries had a charge -...

    M1009 Runaway run-on starter

Doghead - yes great post and explanation. Only thing that I think was different in my situation is that I had my old 27MT rebuilt.

    M1009 Runaway run-on starter

Appreciate your input but I guess there are differing views here http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?116290-Starter-Rebuild I know it's all worth what I paid for it too and I was motivated by laziness in the decrease in work I would do laying in the mud. If I didn't have the issue...
