Yes. And you're still supposed to have these brackets. The staves go through the brackets, and then through the bed rail, and sit in that channel. That's why there's no end caps on the channels The headache racks are interchangeable. Somebody probably swapped them out at one point. But do as wish.

Top of page 2-230, same TM, it says:"(15) Stow staves (2) in pockets (3) on forward end of vehicle sides. On M923/A1/A2 and M925/A1/A2 model vehicles, staves are stored in pockets on cargo body directly behind vehicle cab (1)."

Not sure about the 5 tons, but M35A2C's also have pockets mounted on the headache rack that the staves go through first, before the bed rail, so they can't do what you're describing. Item # 16 on M35. I would imagine similar for 5 ton

Why not just change the -5 90 degree fitting in the aux pump to a -6, and get a -6 hose instead of all kinds of adapters.-6 90 degree to pipe thread is a common enough fitting. That's what I did, and I changed the -5 to straight pipe fitting on the Jerry can adapter to a -6. Still cheaper than...

Is it a stick, Flux, or MIG welder? Be tough with a flux only welder. You really need a MIG, with gas. Welding thin steel can be a challenge, especially with a with a cheap welder. Look for backing bars, they’re either Alum., or Copper, used as heat sink to dissipate heat. Google YOUTUBE for...

1.) Did the Old starter engage/crank? 2.) Is it the same starter, or did the starter come with replacement engine? 3.) Did the replacement engine run before? is it new, or used? 4.) background, did it run before, why replacement engine, etc. 5.) Did you verify your wiring/connections?

I would want to pull the head after seeing that, just to check on things. Did the valve hit the piston at some point maybe? Unless you have access to a borescope, and can borescope it.

There's are way more serious things in life to get all worked up and mad about than a PM that don't interest you. I just deleted mine. Not a big deal, just move on. I'm sure this reply might get some worked up too. :grin:

Feel for you. Been there, done that. Had to drill off at least half of the clamp bolts due to nuts just spinning, not coming off.
