    Building a hardtop

"OK, now I'm curious: what the heck were you doing that you managed to roll an M37 - and more than once?" Playing. When not playing, I used the 37 and the Piper Cub for Search and Rescue.

    Building a hardtop

Back around 50 or 60 years ago, I built a hardtop for my 37 by wrapping a softtop frame and bow with 12ga steel, using a sliding back window out of a Duece. It was strong enough to serve as a roll bar without significant damage when I rolled the truck (which I did more than once). But it was so...

    M37 Gear change

An old post, but for those who might be considering a 318 in their M37, when I went from a 230 to a 318 back around 1967-1968, my mileage went from 11 to 13 mpg. A couple of years later, I switched to a big block Chevy engine, and it went back to 11.

Is it still possible to find Detroit No-Spin KS-22 differentials? I have two and would like to get a couple more.

That's not an M37, it's an XM708. And that tire is pushing 60 years old - I think it is looking forward to retirement...😉

Here's an old photo of my 37. It was my first vehicle - my foster brother gave it to me as a birthday present in 1962. Paint needs a bit of touchup.... Time to refurbish. And yes, I did put twin headlights on it 😁 I'd also like to mount a set of Irok Super Swampers. I tend to like tall narrow...

Marchplumber, he loves his PawPaw and doesn't hesitate to say so. He may not have hung the moon, but he sure helped pave the road that goes there.

What engines will fit in an M37?

I've run both a 318 and a Big Block Chevy in mine. Either is a good choice.

    M37 engine swap

I initially put a 318 in mine. Ran it that way for several years. Mileage increased from 11 to 13. Then, back in the early 70s I switched to a Big Block Chevy. Mileage went back to 11, but it was worth it. Running a Detroit Automotive KS-22 No-Spin differential in the rear pumpkin. Sure...

"The XM708 is a rare beast, it would be splendid to see it done up". I agree. Ten years ago, I think there were 14 of them left. I don't know how many now. My 37 has an LU-4 winch. I'm in the midst of overhauling an LU-4 for the 708. The 37 has a big block Chevy engine; the 708 is stock...

I'm still here. Still got my M37 and XM708. After 60+ years, I'm thinking it may be time to refurb them and give them to my two grandkids. And yeah, I know that left front tire on the 708 is mounted backwads 😀

400 sb Chevy in XM 708

Yes, I'm on your list. The 400 SB is a bolt-in totally reversible retrofit (as is the Chevy big block).

400 sb Chevy in XM 708

Probably no harder on the axle shafts than the big block Chevy that I put in my 37 about 45 years ago. The bbc has given the 37 a considerable improvement in driveability in the mud, and axles have not been a problem so far, knock wood. I would hope that the 400 would have a similar effect...

    Super Swamper IROKs

I tend to like the tread design on the IROKs for sentimental reasons. They remind me of the old directional Firestone Super All-Tractions I used to run. I'm having trouble deciding between the I-810 (13.5x39.5-16.5) and the I-815 (14x42-16.5). Any thoughts about choice regarding clearance...

400 sb Chevy in XM 708

There were 192 built. 11 that still exist (maybe 12). I've owned this one for 42 years. Both are reasons why I specified a completely reversible installation.

400 sb Chevy in XM 708

My brother is fixing to junk an old Chevy pickup that has a freshly overhauled 400 small block in it. I'm thinking about pulling the 230 out of my 708 and doing a fully reversible installation of the 400. It would be an even easier install than the big block Chevy that I put in my 37. No...

    Dana 60 under a m37?

    That's right.

    Dana 60 under a m37?

They are 5.83's, if I remember correctly. Not 5.89. Did it back in the early 1970's before the days of video and didn't take any 8mm film either. No way in h*ll would I ever do it again. That big block Chevy was really screaming, and I was scared spitless that the windshield was going to...

    Dana 60 under a m37?

True, if you are building highway trucks. I've had a big block Chevy powering my stock 5.83's since the late 1960's, and have never regretted it, nor ever seen the need for higher gearing. My 37 has been up over 110 mph, but I find it quite uncomfortable at over 70, for reasons that have...

    M37/M56 radiator.....What are my alternatives?

Yes, anyone skilled in radiator repair can do it easily.
