Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

The diesel shop I got in touch with is also telling me they can't find a 24v starter but the one that got put in is a "gear reduction" starter which he says should try and fix the problem. Can I trust this? Or should I just go ahead and have the whole thing turned into a 12v system which I have...

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

Well I didn't want to leave this thread without an ending but since I had no time to work on the m1009 myself since I've had a class for the past month my wife had it towed to the shop. Turns out he says the starter was fried and I was like well you just replaced it a little more than a month...

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

Well woke up this morning and after handling a few tasks, decided to take another wack at the blazer. Now when I turn the key to the on position, there is no power at all. No radio, lights, or anything. Before I went to bed I was still at least getting that little bit. Guess sitting made her...

    Anyone around Jacksonville, NC?

Also, I took a look at the member map for my area and sent a pm to the two that were on there, just reaching out to see if there's anyone who didn't register on the member map that is on here.

    Anyone around Jacksonville, NC?

If you've read my last post, you can see I am having a tough time trying to take care of my m1009 I just got. I am a newbie but just wanted to try and learn how to handle some of these things myself. On the contrary to that, I seem to keep piling on more problems for myself as I try to fix...

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

Welp decided she won this round for the night. I tried all the "cranks but won't start" solutions with no success. Going to poke at it a bit more tomorrow and then if nothing, I guess it's off to the shop which is the exact opposite of what I'm trying to accomplish. Would like to handle...

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

Looking at the tm for fuel filter maintainence I do see the hose that is supposed to be the drainplug hose. I didn't have one on there and just drained it by taking the plug off. The that was rotted was actually on the top left of the filter and was running down under the truck. Only problem...

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

First off let me reiterate how much of a noob in training I am to this kind of stuff. But cpf you were right. I guess somewhere along the lines of my miscalculations I was running the cables to the wrong sides of the battery. Switched them over like you said and taadaa, no smoke or sparks...

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

cpf, I'm not aware of any conversion from stock the guy I bought it from had done, and I replaced everything 1 by 1 as I did it to prevent an issue but I should probably take a closer look at it with my laptop right next to me while I do it. Is there anything in particular that looks out of...

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

Ok, after reading the resources and learning that you should not remove the neg to the front battery first I am thinking in my head that that is probably what I have done to cause this. I saw that the gp relay could also cause this problem but after I replaced the glow plugs the truck pretty...

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

With the cables I replaced, I removed them all one at a time and replaced them as soon as I removed in order to ensure I was putting them exactly where they are supposed to go. Terrible picture but just wanted to try and show the two batteries almost hooked up.

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

gungearz you're right, I should have put pictures up earlier -this is the area that the smoke was coming from and I'm pretty sure it was coming from that silver part that is a small cylinder. What is that exactly and what have I ruined and now have to replace?

Tried to DIY caused problem. Assistance Please!

First let me start by saying I am trying my hardest to learn to work on my m1009 myself in order to be able to properly utilize and maintain it. So I had my starter replaced becaue it didn't have a support bracket and that ran me what I thought was too much from the shop so I am now going to...
