    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

This is my intent when/if it acts up again. I put about twenty miles on it last night without issue so perhaps he's onto something. One thing I did notice though is that when I turn it off now it takes about seven seconds for the engine to stop whereas before it was always instantaneous.

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

After repeated failed attempts at trying to find the problem I sent the truck over to a local dealership. Initially they said the fuel filter wasn't seated properly but this was not the problem because if it was that would mean that the original filter that I replaced wasn't seated properly...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

I decided to try to drive it down to my shop to get it indoors where it would be warm enough to work on it. I made it twelve miles just fine and then it started cutting out again and died. I removed the canister and it was full of fuel but just not making it to the injector pump. Despite my...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

Yes, my local Cummins shop. He pulled up the part number and said it was changed and changed again and then discontinued best he could tell. In all fairness it's Christmas Eve and I'm sure he wanted to get home as badly as I did. Will try again in a few days. You guys have a very Merry...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

At this point I have replaced both fuel filters as well as drained and refilled the tank. Same issue. It looks like I'll be changing my lift pump, but will be waiting until I can either make room in my commercial shop or until it warms up a little. Since I'm going round and round with the...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

I fully intend to read the TMs as I intend to know this truck in and out. I repair commercial equipment (HVAC/R, food service, etc.) for a living and fully understand the value of proper technical documentation. In this case I'm just tinkering as I can. While two hours may have passed, that's...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

Thanks for the responses. I refilled the canister and cranked the truck again. It has continued to run this time, no bleeding required. At this point I'm ready to go into the testing phase to find out if the cutting out was the result of the filters (there was considerable nasty rust and gunk...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

So I removed and replaced both fuel filters. I filled both filters with Sea Foam before reinstalling them and cranked the truck. It idled just fine for a minute or two and then it cut off and won't start back. It would lead me to believe that it's not priming itself. Any quick tips I can try...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

Thanks much. Have you a part number for this filter by chance? I'm in town now and if I have a part number I can go ahead and pick up the filter and save a trip back into town later. I didn't, but don't understand the connection? Thanks,

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

Time frame. I was trying to get this done before the next snow storm started and have so much to learn that I'm trying to gain the basics so that I understand what I'm reading. At this point I see lots of references to the M939 series but do not know how much of that applies to the M923A2...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

I'm not finding one, but since he recommended changing both and that I'm new to this platform I deferred to greater knowledge.

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

I'm attempting to do this now, but spent the last hour laying in Montana snow under this truck trying to find the second filter. Where does that one live on the M923A2? Thanks,

    Illuminated plate bracket

The Great State of Montana requires that I illuminate the rear license plate on my M923A2. I'm hoping that a 24v illuminated bracket already exists, preferably with splice plugs where I could unplug one of the rear marker lamps from its connector, put the splice plug in between and plug both...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

Thanks much for all the suggestions; they are appreciated. Is there a test to eliminate the lift pump as being the cause? I have no surging at idle which in the past has proven a good indicator that the issue is water in the fuel. Also, before I checked for more updates I had already filled...

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

Hello, Truck was serviced at diesel shop by previous owner. Still on the original tank from previous owner, running whatever fuel additive that he used. I know he added a lubricity additive, I just don't know which one he was using. Thanks,

    '90 BMY - stumbles/cuts out on acceleration

I picked up a '90 BMY 5 ton M923A2 (10,000 miles roughly) a few weeks ago and it has done great for me until this morning. While driving around town the truck is doing fine, but once I attempt to accelerate on the on-ramp to get on the highway the engine starts to cut out like its being starved...
