I ran across this awesome truck today in the Philippines. A strait up copy of the M715 but with modern 4 cylinder turbo diesel, 14 bolt rear, dana 60 front and HMMWV wheels.
I got in my truck last week and turned the key to find no power whatsoever. I had driven it to work that morning and I was busy so I left it and went back to my office. Later on I went back to it, fiddled with the wires on the junction above the glow plug relay and it started so I drove it home...
Just about have my M1008 back to a rolling chassis but... the previous owner must have lost or ditched the washer listed as #18 in the schematic. I cannot seem to track it down.
Does anyo e know where I can get this?
This is not the lock washer that goes in between the 2 spindle nuts. It is...
I have an M116A2/3 trailer. Brakes were a little jacked when I picked it up from auction.
I don't know how they got the drum on over the shoe with it bent like this.
The part # in the TM is BSE10918081.
Edit: Yucca Valley, CA, NAPA figured it out in 5 minutes. Had them in stocks. Charged me...
So 3 weeks ago I started working on the rearend of my M1028A2.
https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/m1028a2-rear-end-project.197395/
I got it all back together and went to start it and it's dead. I mean dead... 1 volt per battery on the meter. I've left this truck sit longer than this before...
I put new used tires on all the way around and now I have a wobble of sorts. I put the rear axle on stands and had my wife run it up to 30mph so I could check it out for out of round tires. The right rear outer tires is either out of round or slightly off center. Easy day. I can fix that by...
I am rebuilding my USMC M1008 that I purchased a few years ago. It has enough paperwork with it to prove it started life in the US Army and was stolen by Marines during Desert Shield/Storm in Saudi Arabia. It was shipped back to the states by 1st Marine Division and then assigned to 7th Marine...
I bypassed the glowplug resistors a while back because others had done it. I also have a volt meter on each battery so I can see how each is doing. I didn't like watching the front battery drop to 10V or lower during startup nor am I a fan of swapping the battery positions every few months. I...
My 1985 M1028 is running a little hot, 220-240 range. I recently installeda new radiator (4 row) and hoses. I installed an electric temperature gauge where the dummy light sensor was. I installed a new 180 degree thermostat and it continues to run 220-240. I'm considering a 160 degree...
I'm building a simple roof rack for my M1028 Wrecker this weekend. I'm including a few IbisTek HID lights.
I'm using 1inch square tubing and some scrap I have on hand.
The base is tacked together. 58" wide by 24".
WTF? I can't seem to load my pics right side up. I even tried loading an upside down picture to get it right side up but it still loads upside down. Help
I'm going to start fabricating a new front bumper for my M1028A3 Wrecker today. It will have a hydraulic Milemarker 10,500 lb winch mounted in it running off the power steering pump. I will also build a pocket into each side to store some chains. The bumper will be made from a 76" piece of 8"...
I opened the front end and found what I think is a Trac-loc limited slip. It also has 586 stamped on the ring gear and etched into the pinion. I'm assuming that means my truck has 5.86 gears instead of the standard 4.56 most CUCV's come with. Can anyone confirm this?
While replacing the rear main seal today I noticed that I can 'click' each set of rod mains side to side. Is this normal or do I need to replace the bearing?
Hi everyone. I'm a new member. This is my first post. I purchased a M1028 CUCV Wrecker last year. It was an army truck and last used in the late 90's. It seems, from the paperwork I have, that the army pulled off the communications box and installed a used Holmes 440 wrecker bed. They installed...
