    MEP-803a seized engine

Ouch. Mine has gone back together nicely. Put on new rings and had the head cleaned w/ valve job ($265 at local shop). I built an injector tester. Two of the injectors won't pop (nozzle holes are corroded) so I'm looking at getting some parts for them. This will be good unit when it's all...

    MEP-803A Injector Thread Size

Couldn't find anything so I made my own. I've got the M12-1.5 die. Took a piece of 1/2" bar stock, turned it down a little (11.78mm), put threads on it, drilled a hole through it, and added a countersink to hold the flare from the pipe. Easy if you have the tools. I'll put up pics when I'm...

MEP-803A Fuel Pump Rack Setting Gage (Gauge)

Injection pump installation question: The TM says to rotate the pumps CCW when installing them. Does that mean the control arm on the pump should be rotated full CCW relative to the body of the pump? Once installed, how do you ensure all the pumps are in the exact same orientation? Because if...

    MEP-803A Injector Thread Size

It's M12 x 1.50 . Anyone know where I can find a male flare fitting? (like the connection end of an injector)

MEP-803A Fuel Pump Rack Setting Gage (Gauge)

Is it just an "L" with the dimensions as shown in the 253-24? If the governor spring is still engaged, won't it hold the rack in the closed position anyway?

MEP-803A Fuel Pump Rack Setting Gage (Gauge)

According to the 253-24, you need one of these to hold the governor lever in the shutdown position when reinstalling the injection pumps. Do I really need it? Can I make one?

    MEP-803A Injector Thread Size

Anyone know what the thread pitch is on the 803A injectors (or injection pumps)? I'm building a bottle jack injector tester and I need to know what size fitting to get.

    MEP-803a seized engine

Yes, I was. It's very easy, just remove the crankcase access panel. Piston rings will be here Friday.

    MEP-803A Head Gasket Consolidation?

Have all the head gaskets for the MEP-803A been superseded by just the 1.47mm one (168-6112)? That's what I'm finding online.

    MEP-803a seized engine

The pitting is around mid-stroke. It's mostly centralized. The third picture has a little more pitting, but it is not as deep as the first. I can hone them some more.

    MEP-803a seized engine

How much pitting is too much? I'm installing new rings on all pistons. Some pits are about .001-.002" at the most. Will they eat up the new rings?

    MEP-803a seized engine

Thanks, jamawieb. That's what I figured. However, I broke an oil ring trying to loosen it up. Anyone have an extra? A set of rings is $45 on eBay so I may have to bite the bullet on that one. How about head gaskets, what's the best place to get one?

    MEP-803a seized engine

I pulled out a piston. The rings are stuck pretty good. Will they free up when it runs again?

    MEP-803a seized engine

Got it freed up. Rotates easily now. Here's a pic of the worst cylinder. The worst damage is midway down the cylinder. You can feel it with your fingernail, but not very deep. So do i just hone it out or get the cylinders bored and put on bigger rings?

    MEP-803a seized engine

Yeah, they're at mid stroke. They're all within about 1/16" of each other!
  16. J

    MEP-803a seized engine

Is it normal for all four pistons to be at the bottom of the stroke at the same time? I guess they could all be at mid-stroke, but it's unusual to see them all lined up at the same position.

    MEP-803a seized engine

Got the head off. Looks like rust in each cylinder.

    MEP-803a seized engine

I pulled the side cover off the crankcase. Looks good. A little water, but not much and not much rust. I'm ready to pull the head off but I have to go get a deep 13mm socket to get the rocker arms off.

    MEP-803a seized engine

Duh. I knew that. It's been a while since I did real engine work.

    MEP-803a seized engine

Ok, I'll pull the injectors. Do you just grab the crank pulley to turn it by hand? It's kinda hard to grab with the radiator shroud in place. I did remove the top and both protective guards.
