M1008 Glow Plug Intermittent Issue Any Ideas?

This is absolutely insane. Haven’t been able to touch the truck in awhile. After truck has been sitting for 11 days, went out to test the temp sensor wires. Unplugged, no power at the wires- yet the WAIT light illuminated. Didn’t do that on 10/2 when I checked it first thing in the morning. This...

M1008 Glow Plug Intermittent Issue Any Ideas?

Yeah, I will have to trace them. Hope I am focusing on the right area and it is not something in the column. I truly felt it was a loose wire/connection somewhere until I found the bad sensor. Got all excited over nothing, have to start over. Usually it was fine overnight, truck would start on...

M1008 Glow Plug Intermittent Issue Any Ideas?

This morning I turned the key on with the temp sensor still hooked up- Wait light never came on. Tried it only once. Disconnected sensor harness and tried it again. With harness removed, Wait light still did not come on. This is going to drive me crazy. I was thinking perhaps a ground issue? Why...

M1008 Glow Plug Intermittent Issue Any Ideas?

I used the original GM sensor, GM #10045847. This is the same sensor I used from 37,773 miles to 80,000. I will try to unplug the sensor tomorrow morning when I am positive it is cold and see if the light comes on.

M1008 Glow Plug Intermittent Issue Any Ideas?

Hi all- I have a 1986 M1008 with 89,966 miles on it. Never had any wiring/starting issues with it until now. Original 24V wiring has not been messed with. In October 2013 with exactly 80,000 miles on it I totally restored the truck- all new sheet metal, SM465/NP205 conversion, injection & water...

Need Advice on M1008 Phantom Noise/Smoke/Fuel Problem

The first batch of injectors were brand new GM replacements. No problems whatsoever. 800+ miles without a hitch other than a dripping 3 and 5 cylinder injector line at the injectors. After replacing all 8 injector lines, the noise coming from the engine sounds similar to the pinging/ rattle...

Need Advice on M1008 Phantom Noise/Smoke/Fuel Problem

Put a brand new GM fuel filter housing on and gave it a shot. Smoke out of RS and engine rattle is significantly worse. Grew enraged and held throttle at 3000 RPM for 5 minutes hoping engine would blow up and save me all of this aggravation. Unfortunately it didn't and now I have to continue...

Need Advice on M1008 Phantom Noise/Smoke/Fuel Problem

I hope this is it. I am going to change out the entire fuel filter housing as it is the original unit and I planned ahead and bought a new GM housing last year. Once I do that, I will check how the filter seals against the new housing. Thanks so much, plan on attacking it this weekend.

Need Advice on M1008 Phantom Noise/Smoke/Fuel Problem

That is what I originally thought too, but blocked it out due to the fortune I paid for it. I guess it is only as good as the guy rebuilding it....thanks for your response. May be pulling this one off again in the long run.

Need Advice on M1008 Phantom Noise/Smoke/Fuel Problem

Utterly disgusted and need some advice from the experts on here. I have a 1986 M1008 that I bought with 37,000 original miles. Changed gear ratios to 4.10, put tinted glass in it- used it every day until I hit 79,955 miles. Never had a single problem, no complaints whatsoever. Around April 2013...

    NP205 PTO Info Needed

I am looking to install a Muncie PTO for the NP205 I am installing in my M1008. I found the original part number off of a PTO for a M1031, but after calling Muncie directly and giving them the part number- they told me I am missing a letter. Can anyone give me any advice? The number I gave...

M1008 Clutch Safety Start Switch Help

I had previously looked under the dash when I had my steering column down and I didn't see any neutral safety switch. I was told that there really was no neutral safety switch as found on the older model trucks, these steering columns were gated and that is how they would only start in park and...

M1008 Clutch Safety Start Switch Help

Hey Guys- I am in the middle of restoring/modifying my 1986 M1008. I have removed the TH400/NP208 and am about to install a SM465/NP205 combo. I have finished installing the hydraulic pedals, slave, master cylinder, flywheel, bellhousing, etc. and have a quick question. Anybody ever do this swap...

    M1008 Injection Pump

Hey Guys- think my injection pump died in my '86 M1008. Quick question- do the CUCVs use an ordinary DB2 injection pump or should I be looking for something special? The governor retainer ring disintegrated and screwed up the pump I believe. Any info is greatly appreciated- thanks!

    M1008 Brakes Pull Left

Problem Solved! Okay, so I have finally discovered what was causing my M1008 to pull left just before I was about to up the reward to a full keg. Nobody won the case of beer as it turns out. Found out that the left caliper was sticking and it was due to a mechanical problem, not pressure...

    M1008 Brakes Pull Left

The height-sensing proportioning valve in the rear and the limiting valve on the front crossmember have all been replaced. Only components I have not replaced are the hydroboost unit and the two brake lines coming out of the master cylinder. When I removed the original 4.56 Dana 60 front axle, I...
