    Winter Storage Proceedures

I see you're in Dallas. This confused me, as we have another four months of summer and never go sub-0. My M998 will just stay in the drive way for the winter. Fishing camp must be nice! Cheers.

Wholly crap! My M998 squeaks, groans, passes gas, rattles, you name it. It runs like a champ, but it aint quiet about it. I think you're on your own with this one.

custom C-pillar construction, what is the radius of the bends in the corners?

I bought a soft top kit and it came with the hardware (bows, cpillar, etc) The C pillar is aluminum (super light - about 10 pounds). Its in my garage because I didn't need it. $400 is ridiculous. I wouldn't pay more than half that (even with shipping)..... just looked on ebay. The prices...

custom C-pillar construction, what is the radius of the bends in the corners?

No offense, but you could probably buy a C pillar quicker and cheaper than it would be to make your own. Unless you have some exotic mod in mind.

Yes to all! I go out of my way to honk the horn at people just to get a laugh! Its like Mike Tyson.

Rookie here! Purchased a Hmmwv Jan 2, 2020

I had a torn boot on the right front. Most people do suggest replacing the shaft, but if the shaft is sound, it takes 15 minutes and a $10 part to repair. I replaced the boot and haven't had any issues. I suggest from personal experience saving your money until you have to spend it (and you...

Interested in buying a 90 6.2 Hmmv with 59,000 miles. New guy here!

I got an 1989 M998, 6.2l, 3 speed, 4-man, 39,000 miles for $8500. It was running and mostly mechanically sound. After driving it a minute, I've since replaced the alternator, put a top and doors on it, lights, replaced bad gauges, upgraded the batteries, and a bunch of piddly repairs. I'm in...

    Rear shoulder belt install

On the back of the pocket is a horizontal retaining strap of plastic, cut those off to expand the pocket. On the inside of the curtain, cut slits on either side of the inside of the pocket to allow for the seat belt harness to slide freely. Its counter intuitive, but its what has to be done...

    Houston Title company

Peace of cake. Don't pay to have it done unless you just don't have the time. You can get it inspected at any state inspection place (they are usually so enthralled with it, that they don't knit pick it to death). Standard safety equipment, lights, adjusted parking break and you are good to...

    Titling in Texas

Everyone here has been incredibly helpful. I don't have a lot to offer mechanically, but for those trying to title their hmmwv in Texas, it turned out to be fairly simple, even with an off-highway use only SF-97 or blue title. House bill 1755 was passed this past summer and it instructs local...

    M998 Alternator Question

Thank you! I tried to adjust the voltage as described and it did nothing. Stayed at 24.2 or so volts. I decided to go ahead and just replace the darn thing. Stung a little, but just a visual examination of the generator (even with my untrained eye) suggested that, even if I get it to work...

    M998 Alternator Question

Got it. So at 24.1, it's obviously under performing. Suggestions? Scrap it and get another?

    M998 Alternator Question

The generator is putting out 24.1 volts at about 1500 rpm. The batteries when running appear to go up 3 volts with no lights or other gear running. I really noticed the problem while driving at night with bright lights and heater blower going.

    M998 Alternator Question

So, I bought my 1989 M998 (6.2l) running for $8,500 in October. Got it home, and ran fast and furious and lubed it, replaced the batteries, fixed fuel return lines, resealed power steering gear box, replaced some rubber boots, made safety equipment upgrades, replaced/repaired lights and gauges...

Repair Help for Handy but not a Mechanic in N. East Texas

It appears that I have positive camber in my rear tires. All else appears to be ok. I'm not certain if that is normal, if its an easy fix, or if I should just pretend its not there. But I can see it, I'm obsessive, and if it needs to be fixed, then I want to make it happen. Any thought.

Repair Help for Handy but not a Mechanic in N. East Texas

I've got my 1989 M998. I was able to do all the things necessary to make it street legal, passed inspection, insured, titled and tagged. I love that thing almost as much as my oldest born child. That being said, I need mechanical work done and a wheel alignment which are above my pay grade...
