I installed a 27SI self exciting alternator. The local shop I got it from had an old pulley of the same diameter. I may switch to a slightly smaller diameter pulley because the alternator doesn't excite until about 100rpm above idle. A 7/16 x 3" bolt and 1" spacer with a flat washer on each...

No luck getting my alternator rebuilt at the local shop. After looking at it scratching his head for a few minutes he recommended I replace it with a 27SI and offered to sell me a clone(WAI) for $165.

I found a two generation family run shop closeby that specializes in heavy equipment and 24V systems.

I removed the alternator belts and we ran on battery power today. The 5 ton was a big hit with the birthday girl and her friends, the parents, and the neighbors. They all had smiles on their faces which is the reason my wife wanted the truck. It was a great time, and everyone was high and dry...

I was actually thinking of removing the pulley & belts, but wasn't sure how long the batteries would last. We may put smiles on some faces Saturday after all. Thanks 98G.

First I have heard about frying the control box, thank you for the info. Where can I find details on the civy alternator conversion?

Thank you for your insight. I'm guessing I should I disconnect it and take the reading, correct? I recall reading that 28VDC should be the alternator output, is that correct?

Mrs. HUlk is crushed because she is supposed to have her truck at a little girl's birthday party on Saturday to give rides for her and her 17 friends, and it's looking like that is not going to happen. We went to drive the truck home from it's storage location and not far down the road noticed...
