First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

The job is done! Finished over a week ago. Just now getting around to posting. Works great now. New clutch seems fine. Old main seal had a big chunk out of it. Definitely the problem. There was no "carrier gasket" or rear main seal retainer gasket. It was a very large sheet of gasket...

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

It was 5823, but very cool. I talked to Chuck. Good rates. He mentioned that he did a lot of work for Mt Doom. He also said I might want to talk to Leonard at REI Sales and Service (256-775-6820). Leonard evidently does a lot of Deuce/MV work like bobbing, gear ratio altering (so you can...

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

Didn't think about fording.... Very cool. Will probably try to make one from gasket stock then. Thanks!

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

Thanks, StoneMill. I read it, but I missed something... Kyle said the following in StoneMill's rear main seal thread: I noticed a gasket between transmission and bell housing in WP 132 of TM 9-2320-361-24-1 (pg 867 of 2006 edition). White Owl had told me that there were no gaskets there so...

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

White Owl had everything I needed and pretty good prices. I was surprised that shipping was so low. Hopefully the parts should be in Friday. They also will allow you to return the clutch disk and pressure plate for a $50 core refund. The didn't have a clutch alignment tool, but they put in...

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

OK. You guys are starting to maybe sorta talk me into doing this myself. My friend has more knowledge of this sort of stuff than I (not on deuces, but cars and trucks). Even my wife said that we should do it to learn about the truck. "Know thy deuce." A local SS member, Caleb, offered to...

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

Yes. Know that now. Need to recheck now that it's cold. From reading this site, it should be 1-1.5" above full when cold -- about the 'k' in 'check' on the dipstick. I can't get over how awesome this forum is. Thanks guys!

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

Yep, smelled it. Engine oil. We saw the level on the dipstick going down some also. Seemed to be way overfilled also (4-5" above full line at a few minutes after shutdown). But the clutch is wet with oil now, so we gotta go in there.

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

Dave: Thanks for your advice. Deuce has 13k miles and < 400 hours. Seller put 4k of those mile on over the last 4 years. Last long trip in it was 2 years ago and went without incident as far as I can tell from the seller. As far as I can tell he drove it a few times per month and seems...

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

Thanks Dave and StoneMill. This is encouraging. When it first happened we were quite disappointed, but after a little talking, reason prevailed. The seller seems to be an honest guy and is willing to split the main seal repair cost. We pretty much anticipate that once this is fixed we'll be...

First Deuce -- Rear Main Seal

New member and we just bought our first M35A2 yesterday. We ran it pretty hard during testing. Didn't leak a drop of anything. Runs great. However, on our way home, it started leaking engine oil bad. We are quite sure it's the rear main seal -- clutch also started slipping on hills, assume...
