Someone requested more pictures, here is what I can find

Got it all back together, runs better than new. I am posting these pictures in case it helps someone in the future. I found it pretty simple to take out the main shaft while leaving the transmission in the truck. This was to replace the 4/5 syncro with a new one in the M35A2 transmission...

Thanks for the offer, I already ran out and paid too much for a new one. I could have bought a nice used transmission for what the dealer wanted for the new syncro. But mainly I wanted to see if I could put it all back together and make it work. Should get a chance next week sometime. Will keep...

Either that or Joe somehow held the shifter in gear and just grinded the syncro down as he drove down the road.

What do you charge for a new one and to put it all back together?

I guess the heat warped the entire assembly, it will not shift over completely to the 4th or 5th gear side.

You guys do some good work from behind a computer screen. Check out what I found when I took the main shaft out.

Just the 5th gear shows signs of heat, all the others and below looked normal. None of them are cracked or chipped.

That could be part of the problem. I took the shift out of another deuce and stuck it in just for grins and it would not shift into 4th or 5th. It felt exactly the same as the first shifter. SO basically I don't know exactly what the problem is, but was hoping a fellow SS expert could give be...

The part that confused me was the shifter itself seemed to be "off track". When you shift to 4th or 5th gear with just the shifter and fork assembly held in a vice, the shifter seems to be trapped so that it could not move the third fork to engage the 4th or 5th gear. Which came first? The...

DieselBob is on to something. I took my first test drive in this truck (after proper PMCS and several other repairs) and could not get it to shift into 4th or 5th gear. It does not grind, but when you move the shifter to the far right it barely goes up or down at all and hits a definate solid...

Odd thing is the truck was just purchased from GL and you can tell "Joe" replaced the transmission because of all the brand new bolts, non-matching paint, clean spots, etc.

Do any tranny experts see anything wrong in this picture?
