You guys just described how I feel about potentially owning a Deuce or 5 ton. I'd totally have either as a daily driver but parking would kind of suck. I'm almost 18 and going off to college, so the one I'd have to convince is the parking attendent at UAF (TB58, I'm sure you know that place)...
For me, driving a regular car, pickup, etc. to a storage yard to pick up my 5 ton to drive every day would almost be a deal-breaker, though I guess I'd have to deal with it if I lived in an HOA neighborhood and still wanted to own one.

I thought you couldn't do the air brake exam with these 5-ton military trucks...am I wrong on that? Granted, I realize it may vary state by state...
If I could indeed to the CDL air brake test on one, I might consider getting one...although I may have a potential Deuce acquistion coming up in...

I can relate to that, being around boats a lot myself. "A boat is a hole in the water, which you're constantly trying to fill with money". Breakdowns, maintenance, etc.
But good luck! Go for it, just be cautious of what you're getting into.
Like everyone else has said (And I'm also the same age as you and in the same position)...lots of work to maintain but should be totally worth it! Insurance, parking, etc. could be issues. If you live in a neighborhood with a Homeowners' Association they might have issues with it being parked...
