    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

OK! Finally went and touched this thing myself for the first time. Stuffed a used but fixable with lots of Gorilla tape soft top on it and did some similar general cleanup that could be accomplished with my bare hands in the space of like two hours (Between visiting with other MV enthusiasts in...

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

OK! Dead thread revival! Recovery got delayed for a year. Finally sold the stupid fire-truck bed in June, man that was a wonderful day! I've bought a handful of parts she needs...PCB, master switch, fuel tank, air intake, springer driver's seat, spare tire carrier, headlights. Got a lead on...

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

OK! Latest plan of attack is to sell or scrap the funky fire department bed on the truck. It's custom built so I don't see much market for it, sadly. My plans are to either (1) find a proper 20' bed or (2) make an R/V out of it.

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

Pardon the awful screnshot of a photo taken during an inspection by fellow member Lindsey97...

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

I absolutely will! I've always had a very soft spot for the M939 series trucks, particularly the XLWB models. Many other enthusiasts have even told me I'm nuts with this one, but given their relative rarity it's worth bringing this one back to life. The only fear I have is if the frame is...

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

That's what I was persuaded to do. Not lose faith yet. 3000 bucks is a lot when you're a broke college student, but one day or another I'm looking into it. Should be interesting. Do keep me posted on yours. I'm curious to hear that goes. I was talking to 98G about mine and the subject of...

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

Slight change of plans. Going to go recover her in the spring and at least get her as far as Kansas, if all works out according to plan. Was having a bad day and put it up for sale yesterday. For all of maybe four hours tops. Started getting PMs on Facebook of "You're selling it already?!"...

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

Did more recovery planning today. Tentatively planned for about the 7th/8th of October. Stay tuned...

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

OK! Sounds like I've even got someone volunteering to try and make it run even though I can't make it to the truck in person for some time yet. I'm getting pretty excited nevertheless!

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

I'm in this weird predicament where I know where every grease zerk on an M939 series truck is, but can't even fix a Briggs & Stratton lawnmower. Is that any indicator?

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

Provided I can get away from school, and/or other stupidity doesn't arise, (Like fighting with the financial aid department!) it looks like I'll be going to go see this thing in about a month.

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

Others do definitely seem to also share the opinion that it's easier than I think to make it run. Just had coffee with a couple other M939 guys last night who really got a kick out of the project. Wes, I'll contact you...

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

OK! The reality of this thing is finally starting to sink in: I am pretty much a 5 ton owner, as soon as monetary resources change hands. 98G and Lindsey have kindly volunteered their amazing help and resources to help me get this thing moved to storage at Lindsey's premises for safekeeping...

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

Interesting! I can believe it though. I believe the A2 type fuel tanks became a standard thing, even as a replacement on A0/A1 when needed.

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

Thanks guys! It's a big step for sure. Not many people had a former military and fire truck as the first vehicle they ever owned.

    I Took the Plunge: 71DeuceAK's 1986 M928A1 Project

Well, since the news has officially gotten out there, I will make the official announcement. I took the plunge and am acquiring an M928A1 that needs a motor. It may just be a head gasket but I'm assuming the best I'll get out of it is core charge or a scrap cash out until I get to go meet the...
