What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I smell a road trip from Ky happening soon...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Thanks. I'm not "pretty fearless" as you put it about working on this thing, as much as it is more of a "sure why NOT?" kind of thing. Working out in the middle of a field isn't a new thing to me, sadly... Truck is parked out in a filed, literally. Old tobacco field, to be specific.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

The liners seem to be subject to destruction MOSTLY by crappy cooling system maintenance, or, rather a serious lack of maintenance. The rattle noise in the top end of the engine is from a pushrod bouncing a little bit, since the lifter kind of "checked out" and collapsed. More "fun" to deal...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

UPDATE- Yea!!!!!!!!!! (no, not really) guess who gets to do an "in-frame" because a liner decided to let go and pressurize the block/cooling system? <- THIS lucky guy... FMW(allet). Sigh, at least the truck is safe at the farm...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I'm getting ready to go pull the rocker covers and see if I can figure out what I hurt in the top of the engine when I oversped it a couple of weeks ago... sounds like rocker arm/ pushrod rattling in there.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Yeah, I've *always* thought that it was weird, being setup like that considering that the Deuce is a "draft tube" style as is the 923 at work. I am not going to mess with the truck until next week, as I am kind of heart broken, currently.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Well, from what I understand, the water pump is a cam-centric design and the if the belts are even a little bit loose, the pump will cavitate worse than normal. Having a non-functional temp gauge probably doesn't help, either. Also, blew the crankcase "cap" off of the valvecover when this happened.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I managed to overspeed the engine in mine, overheat AND have it shut down, all at the same time, on the Interstate on the way home yesterday. Anyone else here happen to check off the "steer 5 ton at high speed on busy Interstate and NOT cause a wreck" part of their PQS yet? Now, it has a...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I learned that my speedo is reading correctly while in 2nd gear, off by 5 after that. The joys of having an O/D trans, AND an O/D Transfer case on 395s'. At least *now* I have a better idea of what my "road speed" is!

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

It ACTUALLY sounds like popcorn "rattling" in a kettle, like at a movie theater. Remember GMs' old 6.2 Diesel engines in pickups? It is a "Legacy" noise of the old style P/C headed Diesels. They used an odd head design that had a "pre-combustion" chamber in the head where the injector is. It...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Well, I bolted the transmission tunnel FULLY down, and added old sleep mat to the rear cab wall, took the Dremel to a couple of "rub" areas on both seats, added grease to said spots and the truck is ALOT quieter. Holy Cr**, what a difference! You can actually hear the air filter change pitch...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Well, we (boy and I) go the steering column pushed UP about 3/4ths of an inch on the dash, which equals about 3 inches at my lap. I am happy with no longer having the steering wheel try to start a fire in my lap when I have to really turn the wheel FAST. We also finished up with the front axle...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Yep. I noticed that when I was looking it up. It will be a GOOD choice for the Deuce, as well. Only thing that I couldn't confirm is gear oil mixing and causing "wash out" .

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I pay $5 per 5 lb can. It's what we have at work, and I am happy just to be able to get a quality grease at a pretty good price. ( It also makes it easier to store on the truck and lug around, knowing how much that you are going to need for a given thing...)

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Just finished up redoing the front wheel bearings and the drivers' side wheel cylinder, since it was damp and covered in black fuzz. 3 cans of brake cleaner, most of a roll of shop towels and a complete 5 lb can of WTR red grease per WHEEL!!!!!!!!!! blah. Next up, the rear wheels, since the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Just ordered a replacement steering ram. Mine is leaking pretty good and I haven't been able to find a rebuild kit for it.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

More like upkeep=money thing, plus having to get it into "fighting trim". WE have ALOT of things to fix on it. It was neglected by the PO, so it is a mess. He knows that I will help him with it, as a good dad should.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Thanks. I got 2 of them- 1 for the M816 -come 813 and the other for the M35A2 that I gave my son as a graduation gift this week. He is having mixed thoughts about the Deuce, just like I did when I got it and then again when I got the 5 ton.
