    Road trip to Alaska

Sigh, Yes, as much as I had hoped to go this year, it is just not in the cards right now. With my new business startup, lack of time off saved up at work, and lack of $$$, I will have to push it to next year as Neil suggested. It is still on though! Just more time to prepare. Looks like the...

    Road trip to Alaska

John, if you're serious, I will wait a year, just to see you drive that thing to AK. We can take pictures. After all, the cab will be in AK and the pintle will still be in WA... rofl

    Road trip to Alaska

JT, I may wind up waiting. I would hate to push it back another year, but there is so much to do and I would like to save up a couple of extra weeks of vacation time, just in case. But so many of you are planning vacation time around my trip... I have gotten word back from the Canadian border...

    Road trip to Alaska

As for the gun issue- you can get a temporary permit to pass through Canada with a firearm- Firearm Users Visiting Canada I have a Mossberg 500, that's what I'm planing to take. I do not have a set schedule per say. I plan to leave the 3rd week in July. So that would put us in AK the first...

    Road trip to Alaska

Branan, Sounds good! The more the merrier. I would like to invite anyone who would like to convoy with us either all, part, or a fraction of the way, to do so. I'm still waiting for the fellas at the Canadian Border Services Agency to respond to my question about bringing a trailer full of WVO...

    Road trip to Alaska

Yes Westy, but I don't want to fall over dead when I get there! I also plan to stop and see some of this great country of ours, and visit with many SS members. No concrete dates yet, but the trip is still on for next year, leaving at the end of July. I've gotten all the radials on the...

    Road trip to Alaska

I wasn't planning to keep her singled for long, I just could only get 6 tires and rims done before the Uwharrie trip. There are some farther away pics of my truck with the 'singles' in these threads- http://www.steelsoldiers.com/steel-soldiers-rally/47349-2010-spring-uwharrie-rally-8.html...

July 2011, final date not set. Got most of the new tires on the deuce, should get the rest on soon. They are great tires and should last long after the trip is over.

    Road trip to Alaska

Ok all, I am having to reschedule my trip. I'm pushing it back one year, to leave the same time next year. I need to save up enough vacation time so I can take the whole month and a half needed, and still get paid for it. Also, there is just too much left to do on the truck. I did finally get...

    Road trip to Alaska

I used to hand fire coal burning steam locomotives. I don't mind smelling like sulfur! :D

    Road trip to Alaska

My father in law is doing the trip on a motorcycle separately from mine. I am looking at extending the trip to allow for more time as you said to 'stop and smell the roses' I appreciate all the offers of parts and fuel, as the plan comes together I may start drawing on some of them. I've...

    Road trip to Alaska

Thanks OPCOM, It looks like Neil Hendrix has volunteered (been suckered?) into being my 'copilot'. Work on Bella is progressing, as I have located as source of brand new 11r20 street tires for a good price. Blasting and painting the rims now, and will be installing the new tires as soon as...

    Road trip to Alaska

Hey Bjorn, Is that the stock location for the jerry can? Makes it pretty handy to the tank. Nope, it is a coolent heated heater. I have several new kits, so that's what I'm installing. Thanks for the cool tip just the same. :-D

How big is said logo? I'll do it. I'm still working out the details trying to find some sponsors.

    Road trip to Alaska

Started to install the cab heater today, only got as far as unpacking the kit and fitting some stuff up. Wish the directions were a little better. I think I have to drill holes to mount the diverter box to the firewall?

    Road trip to Alaska

Sounds like you've done that trip many times. Added to spares list- 2 windshields. :-D Also another member had suggested headlight guards. I could whip some up out of expanded metal pretty quick.

    Road trip to Alaska

Kip, I'll be giving you a call. Jim, I'm thinking about doing just that. But leaving an NDT track in the Artic would be cool. :-D Chris, after talking to some people who have been there, I'm looking at maybe moving the date up to August. Thanks for the info on Canada, I will have to check...

    Road trip to Alaska

I may go with Patrick's idea. Anyone have 11x20 NDTs out there? I'll go price two new 11x20 street radials today. If I was going to keep it 9x20, I have two 95% tread tires on the front of my old school bus I could 'borrow'. I was going to put whatever I put on the truck on the trailer as...

    Road trip to Alaska

Thanks Aaron. I may just do that. I would love to swing by many SS 'compounds' on my trip, but I feel I won't be able to make too many sidetrips of much length. I plan on taking a laptop with WiFi, as you can find that most anywhere nowadays. So I can upload pics and video's, and also keep a...
