I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

If you want peace of mind. Just change all the fuel lines, A lot of these set have had not just diesel run through them, but JP4. JP4 is a good fuel, and running it makes sense for the Army, but it will do nasty things to fuel systems.

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

Probably unrelated, but the dead crank switch did not stop when I let it go back to the middle position, or when I subsequently flipped it down to normal, I then moved S1 to off and it stopped cranking, but then started after moving S1 to prime and run, and then after a bit to start. This...

In any case, try the spray to clean out the switch. This type, (Mark 1) is "open" to the elements. Lots of dust and crud can get in. Just to keep me from having to go back again and look at ten million posts, what is the problem you are having, that makes you think the S1 might be the problem...

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

I think there is a problem with the dead crank switch. After I reinstalled the starter and replaced the batteries I tried the dead crank and it turned over just fine, but did not stop when I switched it off. I switched it to normal and it kept cranking. This could be a sign that K2 is...

Another quick method is to test voltage at any 24V point and watch the voltage while attempting to crank. If the voltage falls off drastically when you try to crank, you batteries are no good. Often, with GEL battery's, they will take a surface charge, and appear tip top. This is a dead giveaway.

Dude, Slow down. First troubleshoot. Then you can start taking things apart. Charg the batterys REAL GOOD. Then we can remove them from the start problem. Read the trouble shooting digram. BOTH of them. There is one in the -10 and the -24 TM's.

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. One step at a time partner, one step at a time.

If you only knew what hoops you have to jump through to get something painted CARC here.

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

Oh, read the last part. When a unit gives up a piece of equipment to DRMO, mostly the OVM will be removed from the end item, to be installed on the new end item. Or, as the case often was, things like sledge hammers and tool simply get looted. That sort of thing can be used someplace else, so...

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

The sets could very well be POMCUS stockage.Stored stockage for war or issue to units that need to replace damaged or lost equipment. It's kept inside, warm, low humidity. No normal equipment is kept inside otherwise . From the pictures of the European equipment, I have to say that it looked not...

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

The rails are more or less there to raise the gen set up enough to get the doors to clear the fenders.

Whats the PU NSN? Not the trailer. It should say PU ***** or PP*****. Look in the morning when you can crawl all over it.

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

You can not stab the gen set with a fork lift through the normal fork lift holes in the gen set base. The fenders are in the way. You can try and stab it from the front or back, but be advised that it is very easy to damage the set that way. Take two lifting straps/chains and lift it correctly...

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

According to someone I just asked, this is a modified PU-798A. It was not issued with a tool box. The TM you posted is for the trailer frame, the PU has another TM, should be TM 9-6115-660-13&P. There are several more adoptions to the trailer mounted 5KW gen set. Most are modified for a specific...

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

You bet cha! And it happens faster then a speeding bullit. Once saw a fella catapolted off a PP, (Power Plant) set, when he removed the front gen set. He was standing on the front of the trailer, when someone else drove off. The weight of the rear gen set, with no rear landing leg deployed, was...

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

If you REALLY want to know what the straps are for, and its immaterial now, but if you just have to know, you need to look at ALL the data plates. There are three data plates on your PU set. One is for the trailer. One is for the PU, (Power Unit) and the last is on the gen set. On the PU data...

I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

Everyone has given sound advice. Now you need to continue getting smart with TM's and threads. And stop assuming. It will be, what it will be. Before you try and crank it over, take some good pictures. Post them here. Often people can spot things wrong or missing, that you have no idea about...
