    M35a2 block heater

It has been about 80 here this last week. I would think block heaters would be the last thing on anybodies mind right now. I wasn't arguing that they didn't work; just advocating that they are used efficiently and where they were designed to be placed.

    M35a2 block heater

I guess Virginia doesn't get cold enough for anybody there to have a block heater in a gas car... here is one application list from kats that Amazon publishes. Amazon.com: Kats 11610 600 Watt 38mm Frost Plug Heater: Automotive I did not see a single diesel vehicle on it. Here is a list for...

    M35a2 block heater

farm: I think you have the best solution for anybody who does not want to pop out a freeze plug. Also the wattage advantage is obvious. If you think about it we are talking a motor that holds 8 gallons of coolant. The applications that are listed for a 600 watt heater are all in the 3-4 gallon...

    M35a2 block heater

I used to plug in over night but had one short out and burn the barn and truck down... That really puts a crimp in livestock feeding ;)

Convenience can be free. He doesn't have to sell a heater for 100% above MSRP. This is a forum, the purpose being to help each other out. If you wanted a block heater you could post a thread and I bet a dozen members will offer the part number for any heater you want...at absolutely no cost for...

    M35a2 block heater

Tm: your own measurements show heat going to the radiator. My measurements show heat going to the radiator. When you put a heater into the coolant system it will heat to a peak temp for that wattage and then level off... I am using that feature to measure radiator loss by occluding the bottom...

    M35a2 block heater

Well for what it is worth you would be doing well to get a freeze plug heater and put it in the block. The farther back the better. I am doing some measurements on the heater in the water pump and trying to get an accurate measurement on the heat lost at the radiator and so far it has been...

    M35a2 block heater

I too wish had posted that earlier and saved you the trouble. Didn't ocure to me until you mentioned that you were going to move the heater line. You may not have the clearance behind the upper plug for the heater, My understanding is that you need about 3 inches, my truck does not have that...

    M35a2 block heater

This triggered my curiosity so I went and fired my truck up and let her come up to temp for 20 minutes. I took a IR reading at my defroster and the temp read 168 F (ambient temp is 52 F.) I then shut down and moved the intake for the personnel heater to the upper port above the water pump and...

    M35a2 block heater

My oil cooler has two more drain plugs on the very bottom. Mine have thread locker on them and I have been unable to remove them, but I imagine that one of them is coolant. I don't know why they would put two oil drains side by side.

I think it would be a pretty lame forum if all we ever did was slap each other on the butts and say good job every time anybody posted anything:-D TM: FYI I had enough room so I moved controversial nipple to top of controversial tank..thanks:wink:

Didn't measure it but this is what mine looks like... It is either 3/4 or 1 inch.

Dang...you are going to force my hand into yanking the water pump off of my truck and take a picture of the back, aren't you:-P Maybe I should just start dissembling the entire truck now... when you have a question I will have a file photo picture for you... I can very easily explain where we...

    M35a2 block heater

TM: Lets make this simple... Either all 600 watt block heaters plugged into any location on the system will heat to the same temp at the same rate or they will not! What is your hypothesis? We will state our hypothesis and let the test results indicate right from wrong. I was merely replying...

    M35a2 block heater

Where I come from the common practice is to put quick connects into the cooling system of machines like skidders that are used at locations that do not have power. When you pull up in the morning in your nice warm pickup you plug two hoses from the truck to the quick connect on the skidder and...

    M35a2 block heater

I see your point, but because we will be unable to get the exact same conditions on one truck for each heater I don't think testing it that way will be possible. We can do an oil pressure/start up test on each truck just to note the pressure and time, but like you said...different trucks will...

    M35a2 block heater

Thanks Bob, saves me research time. Derby: we don't care how well the trucks start or don't start. All we are measuring is the efficiency of each heater in each location to heat the head and manifold to the peak temp at the same ambient temperature. So we have to do all three at the same time...

    M35a2 block heater

Really cold weather is not going to matter as long as all the trucks are at the same location and starting at the same temp. The heaters will all have to be the same wattage. I know we can get the soft plug heater at 600 watt, we will have to see if we can get the 3/4 inch NPT heater in the...

    M35a2 block heater

I doubt that westfolk thought up putting it in the water pump... I think that the information was carried over from another application, but when it was, whoever carried it over did not take into account that the water pump was not connected directly to the head as you had thought it was. The...
