What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Well i went at it, tightened a hose clamp that was my first suspect. Regained power steering and brakes. Seem to be about back to normal, ps fluid runs clear at rest while idling, however has slight aeration after running lock to lock. Is this normal, or is it still cleaning out some nooks and...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Ok guys, it's 11:30pm here, I've been wrenching since 7 and I have to get to bed for work early tomorrow. I just swapped out my steering gear box in the m1009. Old one had a big dead spot and was getting sketchy on the highway. Went pretty good with what I had to work with, all my good stuff is...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Well... Not today but I decided rather than buy a new daily driver truck I was going to build my m1009 to be my daily driver. Not only that, but drive from nw Iowa to central North Dakota for a hunting trip, in about 40 days (now 16). So far I've replaced all springs, shocks, steering...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Depending on what you want to spend on them, I'd get them zinc plated. I'm not sure if powdercoat will go over zinc, I'm pretty sure it will. Ideally to me I would zinc them and powdercoat them if possible, double layer of corrosion protection especially with the zinc dip getting the interior...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Ditched the threaded insert idea for my grenade t case shifter knob. Went out to the shop and decided to see how the Miller liked the cast metal... Worked pretty good. Not the prettiest weld but solid, still learning this new welder. Put some self etch primer on it, clocked exactly how I wanted...

Richingalveston and cucvlovr - appreciate the input. I have put quite a bit of thought to this. Rich, I know there's a lot of moisture/water and elements back there. Here's the solution I am going to use -...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Been busy on the new to me m1009. Have had it about a month and between a lot of hours at work and trying to keep up with a 2 year old I have accomplished some work. New dash cover in hand, painted proper color. Did most of the cutting to fit of the horrible old dash pad, hope to get glued on...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Well after some wrench time, my new to me m1009 is nearly up to snuff. New glow plugs, gp relay, gp terminals, belts, some terminal cleaning, dog head mod and resistor bypass. Just missing a starter bracket and it should be good to go! Also installed some Vision X headlights, waiting for the new...
