    I agree that the perp was likely ex-Service. He knew how to start the truck, knew where first was, and (fortunately) was rusty or nervous enough to miss the shift into second. He also called it a 5-ton. Maybe in the Service the Sergeant wailed on him because of something he did with a truck...
