Definitely a fuel sipper, my 85 1009 with 3.08 gears got 19mpg at 65-70, and 22mpg at 55. My 86 1009 with 4.56 gears gets 15mpg at 65-70mph. And 17-18 at 55-60. My 86 has a newer motor 400+psi per cylinder. 85 1009 200k miles.
My gf just bought a new Lincoln mkx, I thought do you know how many CUCV's I could buy with that ! It has heated and cooled seats! When she was backing up the grill emblem popped out. I said something just happened with your grill emblem, thinking she popped the hood on accident, nope it was...
Rain stopped, sun came out, 70 degrees. Grabbed a peice of cardboard to lay on and got my bilstein shocks installed. 009232 front, 009331 rears, I like them.
Found my vacuum pump to be pulling only 8 lbs, installed spare pump in 10 minutes, all is well. 1st to 2nd at 15 mph 2nd to 3rd at 28mph partial throttle.
Advanced ip timing and installed bilstein front shocks then got rained out. Article blast should be here tomorrow afternoon. Glad I got something done. Artic Blast ! !
My 5 year old edelbrock shocks finally died suddenly with the cold weather, figured I'd upgrade to bilstein shocks. Summit had the best price, but autozone actually matches prices.Saved me 60$ on a set of two for fronts. Now I have to get financially creative so I can order the rears as I am...
With my first 1009 back in 2012 I also ran through the 24V cheap gear reduction starters.I assumed since I also installed optima red tops my batteries were great, they were not. I never checked voltage. After 4 starters in a few years I started checking battery volts, they were so low I'm...
I picked up a heavy duty cabinet style lock with 5/8 mounting depth and 3 different lock arms, gonna mount top center of fuel door. Won't be theft proof but theft resistant.
After 50k happy miles on my 86 1009 with 456 gears someone dumped something in my fuel tank, ruined my injectors and ip ,I replaced tank with a 31 gal tank, electric pump, new fuel line, new injectors, new ip,new glowplugs, new starter. And working on a fuel door lock.
Rotated tires on the 4.56 geared 1009,added 1 1/2 billet Alum. Spacers to rear just because I was tired of people asking me why my front tires were wider than the rears. Looks nice.
