Is a CUCV right for me?

I agree - but they're so cool! I thought about that, but the only joint is right there behind the tank - the next one up the line is in the engine compartment. It would be just as much a PITA to cut and flare it somewhere along the line. Believe me - I drank a whole beer under there trying to...

Is a CUCV right for me?

Thanks for all the info guys - I had made up my mind to go the el' cheapo route and fix up old red this weekend instead of buying another vehicle. Now I'm starting to second guess my decision! I had brake problems on the front end, so I decided to go ahead and replace everything so that I...

Is a CUCV right for me?

Good point - 6 cylinder engines were in everything in the 40s and 50s. As long as it's geared right, slow and steady will win the race - or at least get you there! My area is fairly flat - some hilly areas - not mountains though. I remember the deuce and 5 ton - actually was a better ride...

Is a CUCV right for me?

Thanks for all the posts so far guys! You've really given me some stuff to think about. Still wondering if a turbo or 6.5 would make it more capable of towing though - is there anyone here with one, or should I ask in one of the oilburner forums? I might just b bite the bullet and find out first...

Is a CUCV right for me?

Yeah, I like a/c too - and a radio. The radio works but the a/c is now only 3/50 a/c (2 windows and1 rear slider, at 50mph)! I put some larger tires on it, and with the 305, manual tranny and high gear ratio, she is kind of useless at towing unless you stay in 3rd and 4th gears. I do get about...

    Double post - sorry

Is a CUCV right for me?

So, towing is out and it's way too loud - I would definitely have to be able to haul stuff and tow light loads. The noise isn't that big of a deal, and I drive fairly slow, so thats ok. I do my own maintenance, so easier is better. I've read about the 6.5l swap and adding a turbo, but would it...

Is a CUCV right for me?

Been wanting one since I was in the Army and drove one. Now, my old pickup is in need of some work on the brakes and interior (1992 Chev. K1500 Silverado, 305, 5spd), and now would be a perfect time to "justify"buying a CUCV to the wife. I mainly use my truck to haul trash off, pull the...
