Interesting reads both, but neither really delved into the top watches. The top was "Hamilton" followed by "Waltham" then "Elgin" . Hamilton was bought by a Swiss company in 1969 and is still made today.
A excellent book to read about watch repair is "The Watch Repairer's Manual" by Fried. Get the fourth edition if you can afford it. That and the military's excellent TM 9-1575 .

That's the book. He is the best for beginner watch repairers to follow. Some of the "standard" watch repair procedures can be a bit confusing like "stacking" unless you see it in action.
