Have you visited Vintagemilitarytrucks.com ? He is collecting information on M170's. A serial number data base with pictures of all the M170's out there. My other M170 is 12148 6/55. I haven't had time to send him an email to list that one.

You can on the rear passenger axle tube between spring and backing plate or look inside on ring gear for production date

I have finally found my production date on ring gear ,you can also find on rear passenger axle tube. Mine was 11-19-53.
