I have a 1962 6 ton semitrailer with Army registration 7E0327. I need to come up with a 1961 6 ton semitrailer registration number as the original is nowhere to be found. Carnac could not back into it from the VIN. Does anyone recall how the early 1960's number system worked? There was an article in Military Vehicles about this in the 1980's but I cannot find it to save my life.

I think it may be 7D#####.

Really not sure if it's correct but my 61 M146 Spencer has the S/N 61176 as it's reg number, saw a reworked in 08 1961 Stevens M146 and it's s/n was the same as it's reg #61122

Not sure how the numbering system used in the 1960's worked, but here's a tidbit I can add to your intell....

Our 1960 vintage Kinghan 220KAK Semi-Box-Van-Trailer bears the Number 7C2100.

She's rated to carry 19 Tons (38,000 lbs) with a GVWR of 48250 lbs. - - One heavy duty sucker!

Hope that helps.
