For sale is my 1961 AMC M422A1 Mighty Mite serial number #3612. The Mites were made by AMC for the Marine Corps from 1959 to 1962. There were less than 4,000 ever made. They have an all aluminum body, 4 half leaf suspension, four wheel independant suspension, posi front and back, all aluminum V-4 engine and a manual transmission. They were designed to be carried by the Korean era helicopters into battle. By the time they were built, turbine helicopters came out and Mites were instantly obsolete. They are a very interesting vehicle! This one came from SW Georgia and I purchased it with another. I took the best parts and put this one together and sold the excess. It one is unique since you can barely see a USN and a registration number on it. All Mites were sent to the Marines, I don't know if this went to the Navy after the Marines or if a civilian owner added the Navy numbers long ago.
The following New or New Old Stock (NOS) parts on the vehicle are: 4 new tires/tubes with sandblasted and painted rims. NOS M151 w/s wipers, taillights, troop seats, 4 reflectors, trailer harness cover, 3-lever light switch, throttle cable, choke cable, fuel gauge, generator gauge, 2 dash lights, 2 dash “idiot” lights, left/right manifold set. Also includes an uncracked/modified steering wheel.
The following NOS parts are included but aren’t on the vehicle: Tailgate, 2 rear shocks, 2 front axle prop shafts, 2 rear axle prop shafts, 3 different tie rods, steering idler crank, gen to regulator cable, intake manifold, air filter element, left heat riser tube, clutch disk, flywheel ring gear replacement, 8 valve springs, 1 bag random seals, 9 suspension bushings, rod bearing set, brake pedal arm, 2 front CV boot seals, carb accelerator rod, intake/exhaust gasket kit, fuel hose, timing cover gasket, engine gasket kit, 1 bag Misc gaskets, 4 upper rod bushings, 2 rear motor mounts, 3 Misc preformed hoses, battery cable, main wiring harness, front wiring harness.
The following take off (T/O) parts are included: Stripped engine block, stripped engine block with crank and cam, one stripped head, 3 cylinder jugs (w/good fins), spare tire carrier, front motor mount bracket set, lower air cleaner assembly, bellhousing, 4 connecting rods, ammo can full of small head parts, tub of random small parts, bag of valve springs, hood scoop insert.
The following manuals are included: Parts Manual SL-4-00882A, Powertrain Manual TM 9-2320-225-35, Operators Manual TM 9-2320-225-10, Popular Science Magazine Feb 59.
The Mighty Mite is located in Cheyenne, WY and has a clear Wyoming title. Delivery could be possible for an additional fee. Asking $5,500.
