Hey everyone! Posted an intro thread a while back but it looks like it hasn't been approved for some reason. I'm 19, live in southern oregon. Always liked the military chevy's, some fun memories messing around in CUCV ambulance my dad was painting for the local sheriffs office. Thought it would be cool to have an M1008 or 9, but I don't have that amount of money at any given time right now lol.
My best friend knew I've been looking for a 4x4 for over a year, and his dad decided to sell his 74 K20 that's been in their family since the late 70's, so I decided to buy it from them for $500 (in payments lol). Might buy the new 33" tires too if I find another job, or just buy some 16.5 chevy rims and 36" (true 34") military tires for $600-800.
I was just going to keep it all like it is but I saw some craigslist ads in california for parts off an M1008 that a guy parted out for the axles. I couldn't resist so I blew half my last paycheck on driving 500 miles round trip for the tailgate, blackout lights, jumper cable thing(called a NATO or something I think?), and both bumpers for $210 plus about $100 for gas. Dude kept all the shackles and number plate for the bumper, was going to buy the dash gauge trim with the black out light switch plate and switches but he didn't have the switches, also should have bought the seat so I would have a folding one instead of the fixed one currently in the truck, but oh well!

What's cool also is that the truck is optioned like the 1976 Canadian CUCV type trucks, 350, TH350 trans, NP203 transfer case, 3/4 ton, and bare bones on options!

Right now my vision/plans are :
Fix some of the dents and paint it 383 green
Mount the bumpers
Plasti dip the yellow on the door jambs and interior so that I can peel it off in the future when I restore the truck back to original (probably when I get a real M1008!)
New rubber floor mat
Buy current tires or 16.5 steel wheels and military tires
Fab a removable winch for the front off the shackle mounts (seen on K8Vic's Suburban build)
Fab a regular hitch mount for the rear to retain the pintle hitch bottom frame supports
Buy a 3/4 or 1 1/2 trailer to match the truck
Put a canopy on the back or build a canvas cover
And maybe add the rest of the Woodland Camo scheme if all green doesn't do it for me

Here's some pics of it and one I found off the internet of a Canadian truck made to look US

So far I've swapped out the tailgate and am probably 80% done with the front bumper. Mocked it up, then mocked it up again but measuring everything and getting it set in place. Drilled the holes and that was about all I had to do other than grind down some of the rad support box braces. Tried to have them angled down a little but one side ended up being flat on the frame up top and the other being tilted like I wanted from mock up, but the one all squared to the frame fit better to the body(and the shackle bar looked bad tilted down), so with the help of my friends dad ( who is a professional fabricator, gonna be easy making anything I want as time/money allows) we refit the other bracket to be square. I just have to buy longer carriage bolts and some washers to bring the top of the bumper out a little and bolt up the lower.

Rear bumper was welded to the trucks frame, the hitch support by the axle and the factory brackets too... Probably going to take the bed off to cut the welds easier and drill the extra holes for the M1008 bumper. Thinking about wire wheeling the frame and painting it, along with undercoating the lower side of the bed and cab while I'm at it.

About all I've done and be able to do for a while till I get more money. Going to pay the truck off before painting it green too lol

And another thing I just thought of but haven't been able to find, were all the electrical items on M1008's 24v? The blackout headlight that came off the truck has 12v on the front and is pretty bright with 12v applied, and the marker lights power up with 12v, but haven't seen how bright they are at night.

Found your other thread, and deleted it since you pretty much covered it all here in this one.

Been a while since I've been on here! Since then I've gotten the truck on the road and decided to keep it original. The original paint buffed out really nice, cleaned up the aluminum wheels and bought center caps and lug nuts, and got LED lightbars for the front. It'd be a crime to take such a nice survivor and paint it army green. Dont' know what I was thinking before lol

CSI brand leds are pretty dang bright
