1987 m923a1 fuel can question

Which can is most appropriate for my m923a1s fuel can? Should it be Metal or plastic. I remember black water cans but seldom saw green plastic fuel cans when I was in (86-89) but I wasn't a truck driver.

Scepter (plastic) fuel cans, green or tan, depending on the color of the truck. With either the green or yellow strap to keep the cap from being lost.

All the US GI fuel cans have the same color strap as the can, either tan or field drab. There is no yellow or red or green straps for US GI issued cans.
