All three 5 ton tractor types are up for this task. Look for a civilian 20 or 25 ton low bed equipment trailer and paint it green.

Our group has one of these setups in a slick M52 setup. This works, somewhat. Expect to go slow on hills and have very low acceleration. It does work though.

A guy in our reenacting unit uses an 800 series wrecker to tow his half track. He has been doing it for many years and he always makes events just fine. He doesn't have any fancy trailer on anything like that. Just a standard pintle trailer actually. He doesn't even use the fifth wheel. A 939 would tow it better I would imagine.

If I were you I would get a 923 or 925. That way you can use the truck for other things like carrying people around and so forth. Just my opinion.

As the guys before stated get a M915 or M916 they are much more comfortable and can pull along at highway speed without any troubles !! The M915, M916 are 400 Cummins with a Automatic 5 Sp Allison or a 16 spd Cat trans !!
