This morning when I started my CUCV, I noticed a smell that smelt like burning wires and quickly turned the truck off.come to find out, cylinder #8 glow plug wire was on fire,so I put it out. Come to find out it was resting on the exhaust manifold and had melted the insulation around the wires over time. Is this the cause for the fire? Or is there an underlying problem?

I'd check the voltage at the glow plugs for 12 volts just to make sure the glow plugs are good. Replace the wire end. I think the wire is a fusible link from the plug up about 8 inches but you'll know by the wire when you replace it.

I think this is a new one. Does your valve cover seep oil that might have flashed when the exposed wire got hot?

The advice given above is the best way to diagnose and fix it.
